Posted October 5, 200717 yr http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7030442.stm XI is Gianluigi Buffon (Italy/Juventus); Alessandro Nesta (Italy/AC Milan), Fabio Cannavaro (Italy/Real Madrid), John Terry (England/Chelsea), Carles Puyol (Spain/Barcelona). Steven Gerrard (England/Liverpool), Cristiano Ronaldo (England/Manchester United) Kaka (Brazil/AC Milan), Lionel Messi (Argentina/Barcelona), Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast/Chelsea), Ronaldinho (Brazil/Barcelona) A World XI without full backs! Hard to argue with Kaka as player of the year.
October 5, 200717 yr i think zlatan ibrahimovic deserves it more than ronaldinho. And Madrid's sergio ramos should be there. Essien for c. ronaldo. nice to see Messi there too
October 5, 200717 yr I guess this is based on last seasons performances? I accept most of the players there but: Ronaldinho - Brilliant the year he became player of the year, but did he really live up to that last season? I don't think so. Cannavaro - Has had a tough year at Real Madrid. Great defender, but good enough to be here? I doubt it. Gerrard - Well he's Gerrard so that says it all. Not good enough to be in the team. Buffon - Well, he's one of the best no question about it and as a Juventus-supporter I think he deserves it. But to be honest I have to ask if there's not someone else to put in goal? Buffon spent a year in Serie B after all. What about Cech? Surely he had a great season? Where's Chelsea player of the year Essien? He was outstanding last season so put him in the team for heavens sake. Other than that I say that I have no objections that I can think of. I hate Messi but I can't deny that he's....sort of....good. Nice to see some new tactics too. 4 defenders and central. Perhaps that's the new way to play? Terry as RB against Bolton?
October 5, 200717 yr Gerrard?! For f**k sake the least deserving person in that XI. Well done JT & Didi
October 5, 200717 yr cannavaro?! jesus man his glory days are getting hazy now lol! i guess you cant have nesta without cannavaro and vice versa personally id have put lescott above him!
October 5, 200717 yr I cannot believe people still keep on voting for Ronaldinho... He'll be the best player in the world until he retires... according to some... idiots.
October 5, 200717 yr ronaldinho's output was still excellent, and would be career best stuff for most players... but totti is a glaring omission, he really should be in there.
October 5, 200717 yr Any truth in the story that Carragher has asked not to be considered for any future World XIs after being overlooked once again?
October 5, 200717 yr Author Any truth in the story that Carragher has asked not to be considered for any future World XIs after being overlooked once again? has complained about the selection of Gerrard stating that although he was fit enough to play for Liverpool he would not be fit for the World XI.
October 5, 200717 yr Any truth in the story that Carragher has asked not to be considered for any future World XIs after being overlooked once again? Any truth that Carjacker has been locked in the garage biting a selection of his favourite hubcaps because he knows for a fact that there's not a snowflake's chance in hell that he'll ever get into the World MCMLX I hereby award Jamie Carragher and Wossname Gerrard joint winners of the O.S.G.* award. *Obnoxious Scouse Git
