Posted October 10, 200717 yr Gianluigi Buffon (Italy, Juventus) Fabio Cannavaro (Italy, Real Madrid) Petr Cech (Czech Republic, Chelsea) Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal, Manchester United) Deco (Portugal, FC Barcelona) Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast, Chelsea) Michael Essien (Ghana, Chelsea) Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon, FC Barcelona) Gennaro Gattuso (Italy, AC Milan) Steven Gerrard (England, Liverpool) Thierry Henry (France, FC Barcelona) Juninho (Brazil, Lyon) Kaka (Brazil, AC Milan) Miroslav Klose (Germany, Bayern Munich) Philipp Lahm (Germany, Bayern Munich) Frank Lampard (England, Chelsea) Rafael Marquez (Mexico, FC Barcelona) Lionel Messi (Argentina, FC Barcelona) Alessandro Nesta (Italy, AC Milan) Andrea Pirlo (Italy, AC Milan) Franck Ribery (France, Bayern Munich) Juan Roman Riquelme (Argentina, Villarreal) Ronaldinho (Brazil, FC Barcelona) Wayne Rooney (England, Manchester United) John Terry (England, Chelsea) Carlos Tevez (Argentina, Manchester United) Lilian Thuram (France, FC Barcelona) Fernando Torres (Spain, Liverpool) Ruud van Nistelrooy (Netherlands, Real Madrid) Patrick Vieira (France, Inter Milan) 5 chelsea players, not bad. 2.5 united players (tevez doesnt realy count) Most likely c. ronaldo, wil win it
October 10, 200717 yr No Totti. No Ibrahimovic. I can tell you that alot of people in Sweden have alot to say about that. As for the list it's really nice to see so many Chelsea players on it. But honestly. Eto?o? Riquelme? I haven't heard much from them in a long time. They might as well throw Zidane in there I hope that Drogba or Essien (or Cech, or Lampard, or Terry) wins it but I think that Kaka should win it. Any other decision would be a disgrace. Ronaldo had a great last season but in my oppinion Kaka was better.
October 10, 200717 yr as you say moos (the list is irrelevant because) there is only one possible winner.. a little silly that european golden boot winner totti, and ibra aren't in there considering their single handed lifting of respective sides to glory last year..

I know. But honestly doesn't this happen every year? The list comes out and several people asks why then heck some are on it and others aren't. Wasn't it one year when there were very few Chelsea players on it even though some had been great? I would like to know what makes a player qualify for the list? Do they have to be as skilled as Ibra or Ronaldinho or can someone like Trezeguet who is almost invisible for most of the game but still manages to bag hat tricks also get on that list? Does it help to be a player who is seen alot in media or perhaps isn't that good but is still loved?
October 10, 200717 yr I never fully understood the award system. As much as I like Buffon, I don't think he deserves to be in that list. He played in the Seria B and we haven't heard anything incredible from him. And Tevez didn't play too many games in Europe last year. Can somone please enlighten me? oh and didn't Kaka won the award?

I think that one of the reasons why you didn't hear much about Buffon isn't because he didn't play well but because of the fact that he played in Serie B. Had he played for any other team than Juventus I would doubt that he would be on that list. As it is he played really, really well in Serie B. He is on of the best keepers in the world together with Cech.
October 10, 200717 yr I wouldn't say 'one of the best keepers' I would say 'one of the best two' and by that I mean second best. What I mean is that I think Cech and Buffon are head and shoulders above every other keeper in football at the moment with Cech shading it over Buffon.
October 10, 200717 yr In what areas? I don't think you can separate them, if anything i'd say buffon is a better communicator and can keep a sh*t defense organised...
October 10, 200717 yr Better communicator my bum - he speaks Italian which means he can only chinwag with Pizza makers, ice cream merchants and makers of nice shirts. Cech speaks English which means he has pen pals all over the world. I would say Cech is a better shot stopper and much better at closing down angles and coming out on top of one vs one situations. Buffon I would agree commands his defence better and I would say they are probably on a par in terms of dealing with cross balls. Like I said not much to choose between them however Cech definitely shades it as he would never be seen dead wearing that girly pink on his goalkeeping top.

October 11, 200717 yr I understand that Buffon is great keeper, but I think there are some better one's to be found at the moment. The Ligue Un is crowded with them, the Bundesliga and the Spanish league also have some pretty good shot stoppers that maybe deserved to be on that list instead of Buffon. While we are on the subject, why didn't Cudici and Hilario tried to keep first keeper roles in other clubs? Cudicini is a top class keeper and Hilario is far better then most of the keepers in the premiership (Lemon ). I like them in the Blue, but it is odd that opted for second or third keeper roles when they could have both been starters.
October 11, 200717 yr Cech definitely shades it as he would never be seen dead wearing that girly pink on his goalkeeping top. Doesn't that emphasize his manhood along with two days of stumble

Doesn't that emphasize his manhood along with two days of stumble Two days of stumble, are you insinuating Buffon got so drunk he woke up wearing woman's clothing and had a two day hangover? Ozzy Osbourne would be proud!

Could be also they enjoy living in London, and that overshadows the never playing part.
October 11, 200717 yr Most of the people on that list are there based on what they've done in the past, why Tevez is there I'll never know. For me there should only be one winner: Kaka.

He loves Chelsea and can accept being backup if it means he can stay. He doesn't object to the money he gets but I don't think that's the reason for him staying. I love having him here but I would actually like to see him be 1st keeper for another team. He deserves it and I bet no supporters will object if he choses to leave. As for Hilario I'm not sure. He's not a bad keeper and can probably move on to another team. I also think that he will do that soon. He came because of Mourinho I'm sure of that. The prospect of playing for a team like Chelsea was great I bet but it was thanks to JM that he came and I suspect that JM leaving will in the end mean that Hilario leaves too.
October 11, 200717 yr Why the hell is Viera in there? He didnt even play for a big part of the season due to injuries and he wasnt that good either. I think his days are over, Ibrahimovic should be in there instead of him.
