The New Indy Film

Featured Replies

I have read that Lucas has yet again succeeded in ruining another franchise, by doing a ‘phantom menace’ and making a crap Indiana Jones 4 film.

Without giving too much away, the films theme surrounds Extra Terrestrials…. I know…. Why would you do that?...

Anyway, can anyone here confirm that it’s a shocker?

Went to see it Sunday...

its not a shocker...its a typical Indy film, its very much like the previous 3 until about 3/4 of the way through the film, see it for yourself then you'll understand.

$60 million over the first weekend in USA, and a probable Christmas DVD release...

KERCHINNNNNNG!!!!

Didn't have me doing cartwheels, but not deserving of the derision it's getting in some quarters. Some fun moments and a couple cringe-inducing scenes. Decent escapist fare...just don't go expecting it to match Raiders and you'll be fine.

Hint: for maximum value, see it at matinee prices

Saw it with the kids on Monday and loved it.

Can't believe that it's been slagged off by people who should know better. Sure, it's got flaws (the first half hour is fairly needless) but through most of the film, the cinema I saw it in had one big smile on its face.

Its no Raiders (one of the best, ever!) but its still a fantastic action-adventure imo

What were people expecting - gone with the wind ? close encounters ? the knives were sharpened before it even opened.

Blows the Star Wars prequels out of the water

have read, like this thread shows, varying reviews of it... so have not seen it yet. this is one of those films where I think retaining the formula is important.

p.s. the third star wars prequel was good IMO.

I must say I enjoyed it but it is decidedly average and when you consider the sum of it's parts that's not really good enough.

I watched Iron Man yesterday and for me that kicks the a*se out of Indy 4. Well worth watching.

saw it today- far better than I expected, mike o's summary spot on.

[spoiler:38qso8y9]a lot of criticism I've read has been about the end, but surely it was in keeping with the previous films? there has always been a "supernatural" element.

I satisifed my curiosity and saw it.

Not as bad as i suspected, although to be fair, some bit's were awful... Namely;

The whole dodgy CGI jungle car chase bit.

The 3 waterfalls. &

USING A SNAKE TO PULL INDIE OUT OF SOME SINKING MUD TYPE STUFF!?!!!!?!?

...Laughable. 541.gif

I thought it was quite good.

Critics love to slate "franchise" movies - usually they have written their review before they have even seen it. But I think it would have stood up as a movie even if it wasn't an Indiana Jones film - if you get what I mean.

I especially liked the fact that the Indiana Jones character was actually cast as an older 60-something year old, and not just Harrison Ford pretending that he was still 30.

The first half was miles better than the second, it had a little bit of humour and some classic Indy moments, swinging along to 'that tune', a bit of exploration, a few traps and was generally pretty ace.

The second half; cgi ants, cgi monkeys, a UFO... absolutely awful
