He looks really good in the Euros but would he get a game with Lamps & Ballack there but if Lamps goes to Inter as rumoured then he should get a game unless Scolari thinks otherwise. We have been linked with the Hamburg player a couple of times this summer. I would like to see him at the Bridge.

Would love to have him. If Lampard leaves he would have a spot in the team. Essien could play right and Ballack left in the midfield with VDV competing the diamond on the tip behind the strikers. Mikel in Maka's spot.

He would choose ManU if Ronaldo leaves and Ferguson really wanted him. We are in no competition with ManU IMO. Don't know if VDV is an Adidas cover boy, that would probably help us.

cole very rarely gets a mention in anyones team selections, that are posted, cole could easily do the jobs vdv deco or any other player mentioned can do, and the best thing about cole is he's already at chelsea

sorry but i dont really see what van der vaart does in a game. he flickers in and out of a game and for me, there are alot better options for us!

i watched him in group games and he was ok but nothing great and then i watched him yesterday and he was poor in a big game....i think he may be a player that doesnt do it at the biggest stage..hence why he looks good in a hamburg team!!

arshavin would be a quality signing as he is techniquely really good and two great feet with pace,eye for a pas and a good finish and very passionate.

does anyone else agree with me that van der vaart is ok as a player but there are better options for us!

No i agree i dont think we need van der vaart, he is neither a winger that takes players on or a central midfielder with attacking and defensive qualities. I cant actually see what he does. To say ud rather see him than anyone else this summer gem is indicates a pretty poor knowledge of football. Obviously you think hes the best player in the world?? I think not.

Deco, sneijder, Robinho and Arshavin would be much better. I think people may be taking this new chelsea fantasy team a bit too seriously. We wont make more than 3 big signings. And i gurantee van der vaart wont be one of them.

Ok ill put it another way shall i. If someone seriously believes that he would be the best payer for chelsea to sign this summer, then they do not have a wide knowledge of players in world football.

And ill put my van der vaart statemnet a different way. I dont see his attributes and qualities as ones that chelsea need. And i also do not understand his effectivenmess in a game of football.

im undecided over vdv. he does some wonderful things at times, but not sure if he does them often enough. havent seen him in enough big games to know how he handles pressure. and jamie, just because someone has a different opinion to you doesnt mean hes less knowledgeable.

I think we need to sign a creative player with pace, who isn't going to cost an arm and leg (that said the finance side doesn't factor in for us as much as it does other clubs), is fairly young, has a good eye and has European experience.

And comments like yours also say a lot about a person, I'd rather ignore your stupid little comments than try to engage in an adult conversation you're clearly not able to have.

I give my opinion and thats what a forum is about. I can understand that you'd want a player like van der vaart but surely you'd rather have kaka or arshavin. And has he really got european experiance. Hes not playing in the champions league with Hamburg and im not sure international football is of an exceptional standard anymore.

Plus vdv hasnt really got that much pace, and if he does, he doesnt utilise it enough.

be honest...all you van der vaart fans...how many times have you actually seen him play. i havent seen him play until euro 2008 but i think he hasnt been great! im not saying that he isnt a good player and might be a good player but for a player who plays for hamburg, how much have you seen of him or are you basing he is a good player on his reputation?

I dont understand why a single poster is being attacked for liking a player. I will back Gem 100% because van der Vaart is my co-top choice for a transfer target this summer, personally, along with David Villa. So maybe I have the same lack of footballing knowledge

My OPINION formed on the basis of watching a number of bundesliga games and games for holland (not the one last night, because frankly, that made the Dutch national team look like a pub team: they were awful) is that Rafael van der Vaart is a top drawer footballer, and exactly what we need because he does an excellent job of controlling an offense. He is pacy, tricky, has a ferocious shot that he is unafraid to utilize, and ABOVE ALL, his versatility makes him a very handy player to have on the pitch. Having him will be like having another, younger Ballack further forward, behind the strikers, because his offensive skill set allows him to hurt an opposing team in a wide variety of ways.

If we were to replace Lampard with him, I know for a fact our creativity in getting the ball to the strikers would be much better, and along with Ballack distributing the ball, we would become a much more unpredictable side when going forward.

Van der Vaart is still relatively young, has helped an average club team overachieve the last few years, and has had a tumble from stardom in the past because of perceived lack of commitment to his work. But now he has shed that label, and everyone in the world realizes that its time for him to step to the big stage at last.

I dont know how you couldnt not want a player like that.
