ducavis
Am I the only one worried about the squad's age. Its OK having two or three experienced (age-wise) players but when you have six or seven players in the squad, I am afraid we will wake up one season with a replica of the Milan Squad which is why Youth Players will never get a chance until this is addressed. Cudicini: 35 Hilario: 33 Belletti: 32 Carvalho: 30 Ferreira: 29 (classed as 30) Ballack: 32 Deco: 31 Lampard: 30 Anelka: 29 Drogba: 30 & Minerio OK you get my drift you could put out a team of old players. Other top four Teams Arsenal: Gallas, Almunia & Silvestre Liverpool: Hyypia, Carragher & Aurelio Man Utd: Scholes, Giggs, Neville, Van Der Saar, Brown & Ferdinand When you consider most of our key players fall in these category and have played 46 games between them with Lampard, Anelka and Deco playing the core of these games, our transfer policy has to be examined. This situation has led to the adoption of a 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 formation has we have to accommodate these players some of whom I dont understand why we have them on our books. Why have Hilario in the Squad when Rhys Taylor is in the Reserves. Belletti and Ferreira are absolutely a waste of space; and they got new contracts. Ivanovic will leave in January hopefully because he doesn't deserve to be behind any of these in the pecking order; Cue the youngster with Wolves. Our midfield which has made playing 4-5-1 a necessity is dominated by 3/4 over 30s. Are we sure Ballack is actually going to play more than 15 league games this season? I am sure after the Internationals he will be injured again. If we intend to play this formation, why not blood in a youngster and please God no ne contract for Ballack! fine he scored some crucial goals last season but he is mostly injured and Deco, well Barca got rid of him and drastically reduced the age of there squad. Up front we have 2 guys over the hill, Drogba and his dodgy knee. Forget it he is never going to be the same and I pray he gets no new contract. Till Next time. *NEXT TIME; THE DODGY WINGERS WHO ARE EITHER INCONSISTENT OR CANT BEAT A PLAYER TO SAVE THERE LIVES*
Chippy
Looking at that I'd say relegation is almost a certainty.
ducavis
I am reviving this topic from November 2008 because I was right on many of these players except Lampard. Btw where are the Ballack supporters who claimed he carried the team. More like a passenger I say.
Maksimov
Btw where are the Ballack supporters who claimed he carried the team. More like a passenger I say. Hindsight is always 20/20. Last season he did carry the team for a good part of the season. Edited March 26, 2009 by Maksimov
Nibs
Hindsight is always 20/20. Last season he did carry the team for a good part of the season. Eh??? Last season, when we had injuries and players away at the ACN, Ballack did have a number of decentish games. He played well. But no more than that. And it was only a handful of games at best. To say he "carried the team" is a wild exaggeration.

To say he "carried the team" is a wild exaggeration. tbh I think that is a wild exaggeration B) now that everyone knows what to look for in his performances, go back and watch those games again. the utd game is always highly quoted but I thought he was terrible in that match as well. he did everything in that game which he does now - sloppy passes, silly fouls in dangerous areas, slowing down the attack. only difference is he scored 2 goals. 1 header which Drogba gifted him on a plate, he couldn't miss. and a penalty (and as we all know scoring a penalty or 2 isn't a big acheivment, is it stevie g? 1st hat-trick my arse) Edited March 26, 2009 by sexelk
Maksimov
I think Ballack was one of our most important players last season(and this coming from someone who didn't want Ballack at Chelsea). His Chelsea career has mostly been disappointing, but last spring he was one of our key players.
ducavis
We all agree though that we all want him gone next season; I am curious to find out why he starts every game as all our managers seem to play him when every Chelsea fan knows he is a twat. Would like to see his contract when he leaves, because he must have a clause stating he starts every game if he is fit. I hope the management never sign any player over-28 again; Bosman or Freebie because well Zola was one in a million
