Copa America

Featured Replies

Are all these poor scoreless or low scoring games down to strikers missing chances, down to chances not being created or just down to pragmatic, defensive tactics? If its the tactics then its a sad day when even South American teams have succumbed to percentage football ahead of flair and skill.

I don't think you can categorically say that the whole of Copa has been dull and boring football. There have been teams that have played flair/attacking football and there have also been teams that have been pragmatic throughout but it would be fair to say that both Argentina and Brazil dont deserve to be in the semis. Both the teams would be guilty of taking things a little too lightly and none of their stars (Messi/ Neymar/ Tevez etc) actually turned up and that's probably the reason they find themselves out considering their over-reliance on these individuals.

Only game Ive seen anything of was last nights Brazil game, I was going off comments on here and elsewhere saying it has been very poor. So has it not been as bad as many are saying?

Well Argentina were playing with 2 DMC's with Messi in midfield for most of the tournament. I can't even fathom why they put Mascherano and Cambiasso in midfield together against sides they could demolish. The only Argentine player that impressed me, including Messi, was Aguero.

As for Brazil I'm not really sure what their problem is. They were a bit like Arsenal, plenty of possession, plenty of flair, but no killer instinct.

The difference for me though was some of the teams are better than what you expected, sure they have all the talent in the world but the teams like Peru, Venezuela and Paraguay are well organised teams whereas the likes of Argentina and Brazil for me have poor managers.

Brazil have been poor so far and judging by the hype around Neymar he has been poor as well. I've seen him about 5 times for Santos where the defending is awful and his a big fish in a small pond, currently this is the 3rd international im watching in him and he's only played well against Scotland baring any change in this game against Paraguay.

Comparing him to Brazilian talents like Kaka, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo he has yet to convince me that he's worth 40 million. Sure he's exciting too watch in the Brazilian league but i think he's very suited to La Liga and i strongly believe it is where he will end up.

As for Ganso he has looked like a lost puppy but as im writing this i can see it coming back to haunt me and one of them scores a wonder goal :laugh2:

Brazil is definitely not the power house it once was. There is quite a lot of work to be done if they are to even make it to quarter final stage in the next World Cup. The Copa America has brought this into sharp focus. Three years is still time enough that with much fine tuning they could be near ready to step up to the plate. Thing is they usually don't peak too early but the Copa should give them an indication of what deficiencies there are.

So it seems I may have gotten the wrong end of the tick. Has the copa been a decent tournament then, only spoiled by the poor play of the bigger nations? A lot of the reports and quite a few on here have said quite a few games have been poor spectacles. I`m very confused now.

Wow, Larissa is gorgeous. ::ChElSeaFLag:: Let's hope for more chicks like her on the terraces :JC_doubleup:

Have to agree completely. Extremely gorgeous!

You may have missed the picture above.

The tournament started on a slow note but that's understandable since most players wouldn't have gelled with their team mates in the initial stages. After the first round of group stage games the tournament did get into its full swing and we have seen some smashing games like Paraguay 3-3 Venezuela, Brazil 4-2 Ecuador and a few more. As I said earlier, the games involving the hosts have been a poor spectacle given the expectations and the lacks of goals from a side that boasts of Messi, Tevez, Higuain, Di Maria, Aguero and Pastore.

I didnt, I really really really didnt.... :)

That's good, because I would have called for your man card if you had. ;)
