It should also be noted that it was Ranieri and not Mourinho who established a solid defence as the basis for our success, and that we had a record-breaking season in that regard in 03-04. Also he is currently reviving Juventus's forutnes, who are in 3rd plae after returning to Serie A and just beat Inter on the weekend. Forza Ranieri I think that sums Claudio up....."The Nearly Man"

Yeah, I was actually. That was about the time I started following Chelsea - can't go back any further as I was too young before that. My old man has been following the blues since the early 1950's and my late grandfather from the 1920's but let's not get into a pissing match. If you've been around for that long, then fair play to you, and i'm sorry if I offended. I just don't like it when Claudio gets slated as he did a lot of good for the club in the years he was here, and things could have gone quite differently for us if someone else was in charge at the time - look at leeds. Cant help thinking with the players we had we could and i think should have done a whole lot better under him

Proven track record doing what??.........Ranieri has never.....repeat never won a league title, nice fella poor manager IMHO...........Grant is going the same way Not sure how long you have been following Chelsea, but when we appointed Ranieri, we weren't exactly anywhere near a title-challenging team, and couldn't exactly expect to attract a proven title-winning manager. We had a squad of 30+ year olds who were great 2 or 3 years previously under Vialli, but were all over the hill, or close to it, and he had to completely rebuild the squad from the ground up. He did that with Terry, Lampard, Gudjonson, JFH, Gallas, Cudicini, etc etc. In the 3 years before Roman he built the backbone of the squad that won us our first league in 50 years. And its not like Chelsea is the only place he did that. He did the exact thing with the Valencia before that, and Fiorentina before that. Bascially he is a very good judge of a player (possibly as good if not better than Wenger) and has what it takes to turn a top-half of the table side into a title-challenging side. Sure, he has not gone the final step and turned a team into a title-winning side, but there are lost of good managers and good players who never win a league title in their whole careers, and Claudio's career isn't finished yet I wouldn't think. Judging a whole career on one match in Monaco is a joke. Sure, he made some pretty poor decisions, but if you are going to pick out one match to judge him on, then you could just as easily pick out the win a highbury a month before, against far and away the best team in the world at that time. Comparing that to Grant, who has inherited a world class squad, and is slowly bringing us back to where we were when Claudio left, if not lower. He has had ABSOLUTELY NO experience in doing anything like this before, and is showing no signs that he is going to miraculouly turn into a quality maanger any time soon. Personally, I don't think there would be anything worse than giving him 100 mil to blow on transfers this summer, as all it will do is dis-assemble our world class squad, and I have absolutely no confidence that Grant has what it takes to build a new and better one the way Claudio did. Id suggest ive followed Chelsea a long longer than you my friend??........We wasnt near a title winning side???.........how long have you been following us??.......Have you forgotten the 2-2 at home to Leicester??....which done for our title chances that season and we were there or thereabouts prior to Ranieri coming........you wanna talk about nowhere near a title winning team..........was you around when we almost went down to division three on a windy cold day at Burnden Park...........or watching the dross that was Micky Nutton and Alan Mayes........that my friend is nowhere near a title winning side..........In saying all that i agree with you i have no confidence in Uncle Avram at all......and i hope my posts didnt suggest otherwise. Maybe Ranieris quality is lower down but IMHO he aint a good manager.......didnt think so when he joined didnt when he left.
