I'd like to see us start a couple of those who have a chance of breaking through this season: i.e. Christensen, Baker, Tomori, Boga. It's not all that useful seeing us field all the reserves at once, it won't help them learn how to play in our team.

I think it's more we went to China to make our fans out there happy. A fringe player has probably caused more repetitional damage than the tour could make up for. The club have to be as apologetic as possible. It's a PR question not a PC one.

Of the back-up brigade: Big Positives: Boga: Looked quick, direct and very confident on the ball—well on course for making the squad. Tomori: Probably too early to say but looks good enough to cover for Moses / be the 6th CB in the squad. Showed good touches and confidence going forwards and covering at the back. Interesting to see: Baker: Was very eager to get involved but didn't have enough time to show what he's capable of. Hopefully will kick on and make the squad. Scott: Like a little homegrown Fabregas, couple of very optimistic passes and decent movement in the middle. I can't really see him making the squad but Conte obviously likes him. Clarke-Salter: Made a couple of decent blocks, tackles. Probably in line for a championship loan. Disappointing: Kenedy: I don't think he's ever going to be a defender, I think we've probably done more harm than good trying to convert him from being a winger/forward. LWB is the one position we definitely need cover for.

Van Ginkel has gone back to PSV for the season, so no number for him. Christensen and Musonda Jr will be involved. The way the current training / tour squad is looking, Conte will also be promoting one of Scott and Pasalic, one of Baker and Boga and one of Tomori and Clarke-Salter. Having let Ugbo go to Barnsley, I'm assuming we won't be promoting a striker. Which will end up looking something like: Courtois, Big Willy, Eduardo (3) Azpi, Christensen, Luiz, Rudiger, Cahill, Tomori (6) Moses, Alonso, Baker, Scott, Fabregas, Kante, Bakayoko, Kenedy (8) Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Musonda, Batshuayi (5) I expect us to add one forward and one wing-back and probably sell Kenedy. Which'll take the total number to 23 I imagine the likes of Mount and Dasilva will be at the edge of the squad by the end of the season.
