Unfortunately I believe it all hinges on our CL qualification at the moment, it's why you'll see plenty of rumours around ourselves or United for example, but nothing really concrete until both clubs get to know which competition they'll be in and all the money (or lack of) that comes with it.

So this game is actually played later than the Europa League final, which to me can only mean that this title matters more to UEFA.

I'd take current Gareth Barry over Jacko when he's on one...
Guirassy not an option for us at striker? Whenever I watch him he scores for fun!

Bummed for Frank, but Coventry staying in the Championship at least opens up an interesting loan opportunity for our youngsters such as Walsh, Mheuka, even George if we end up signing 10 more wingers this window.

Am I the only one who thinks that Gusto's game has deteriorated so badly, and his passing ability is so bad that he should be nowhere near the first team.

Ah come on now, why would the thought of an Arsenal win tonight give you stress?
Honestly @Mod he's making me sound like some Wind Up Merchant, well I never...

First trophy for 70 years ... it's likely that no Newcastle fan under 77 or so has ever seen them win anything !
There'll be some party in the Toon tonight. And I dare say a sh*tload of December babies on the cards LOL

I don’t think that anyone is advocating for CHO to come back, but just pointing out that we sold him for £3m and got someone not better (if not worse) for £20m. And that’s the trend with this board.

Judging from yet another random "Welcome to Chelsea" vid it seems we've got ourselves a Madueke regen, albeit with less output. His highlights finish with him dribbling past a defender and... That's it. It all probably leads to nothing so it gets cut out.
As been mentioned though, problem is not the signing itself, but what's the point if our 5-year project manager just wants to recycle possession indefinitely? It's hard to get excited about any signing at this point.

I'd rather we sign Maignan or Reinjders instead. Leão will be remembered as another Balotelli, has everything to shine but just won't be bothered to take that next step.

I was watching PSG last night, and even though they lost, it was like a breath of fresh air when watching them. They just suffocated Liverpool with their speed and instensity. Watching us play keep ball is so boring in comparison.

Throw in an youngster who even Milan fans haven't even heard of for 40m and we got ourselves a sweet deal.

You can see a "Felix plus a bucket load of cash" deal happening can't you ? 😎
Even if Milan don't want Felix LOL

Our problem is that also takes the conference league games in account, doesn't it? Iirc We've scored a lot of set piece goals there because we were playing Disasi & Tosin against crappy defences.

We've doing that for ages though. It was Emenalo and Granovskaia who first cut the number of scouts we had in favour of an analytics-based approach, doubling down on the approach in 2019. Analytics identified the targets, and only then scouts were sent to watch them. Since Emenalo and Arnesen were brought in, we have always had sporting directors who identified young talents for long-term investment, rather than purely based on what the manager wanted/needed at the time. None of that has substantially changed, and signings like Palmer, Sancho, Caicedo, Estevao, Paez and Fernandez were not identified by analytics, but by scouting. A closer look reveals that many of our reported targets and signings (Madueke, Sancho, Palmer, Bynoe-Gittins, Olise etc...) are all well-known English academy products from its most recent 'golden generation'.
The real issue is that the club continue to believe that these products will simply develop in a vacuum, devoid of any real coaching, competition or active management. Like a computer game, they expect these players to simple be programmed to reach their potential as they age with no extraneous effort. Of course, great players are shaped and formed and mentored by senior, experienced professionals and coaches who set the standard through leadership and a culture of success. We absolutely do not have that and unfortunately our upper management do not believe it is necessary. Who will help Estevao settle in London? Who will stand up for him when he is kicked off the park? Who will model professional training habits to a pampered generational talent like Kendry Paez? I think we are signing very talented players on paper, but we do not have the framework to help them come close to their potential.

Arteta is Oasis to Pep's Beatles and Enzo Maresca is more like an Oasis cover band Foasis to Arteta's Oasis.
