All it is, is that Benitez dropped his interest, and one of the major factors in him dropping his interest was that malouda wanted too much money. It has f**k all to do with what you were/are willing to pay him, it is to do with what we werent. If we had been willing to pay what he wanted and benitez been encouraged enough that he wanted to join us then he may still have chosen you over us, but as it is we dropped our interest.

When we were in negotioations with Lyon, you apparently werent, and when you were we had already dropped our interest. All i was saying in my initial post is that Benitez has said nothing there to suggest anything other than that he thinks Malouda is greedy, thats all. all of your responses to those comments are absurd. Either you are stupid or blinded by hatred. Guddy, where did he say Malouda is not good enough for us? We did try to sign him and he said we only try to sign players that ARE good enough, so work it out. He is implying that the only reason we didnt sign him is because of the money he wanted, thats how i read it. He doesnt say the lifestyle is not good at chelsea, he simply said thats not the reason he thinks he chose chelsea because of. The implications are clear, and to be fair they match what came out of Malouda's mouth when he was pimping himself to us both at the start of the transfer window.

i dont think it is a fair argument because our wealth came from out success, initially. We were as poor as any other when we started and we started outside the top flight. Shankly took over a struggling club with no realistic title ambitions, through hard work and great skill (from Shanks) he transformed us into a great side and laid the foundations for the success that then came under Paisley, Fagan and Dalglish. This is part of the history that we are proud of, and these are the so called working class roots of the football club. The club built on that success and from the back of it made money and yes that money was used to further the success but it was sustainable and self generating for those years. What gets to liverpool fans is not that you are now in that position, it is that your club was so poorly managed that it was on the verge of bankrupcy until a mega rich (nouvo riche if you please) Oligarch turns up and throws his money about like it is going out of fashion and suddenly through no hard work and no laying of foundations you are a 'big club', when in reality you still cannot sell out all of your champions league matches and have to advertise in the Evening Standard the night before. You are the 'lottery winner' not the 'nouvo riche'. You did nothing to deserve the success other than sell your arses to a rich man. Having said that, I do not dispute anyones rights to win trophies and do not think that only we or united have those rights, but when people consider Blackburn bought the title in the mid nineties, you have been even worse. I dont hate chelsea, other than on match days, and i was praying you would beat united to the title last year as soon as it was evident we could not win it, but i do not wholly value the trophies you have won as without Abramovich you would not have won them and you all know that as well as i do. If you want to sum it up in classes that is all well and good but you cannot simplify it as much as you choose to. Football began as a working mans game, for the working class man, and that was what our club like your club and like pretty much all clubs was founded on. We are not the upper classes just who were born with the silver spoon, we are the working class man that built up his business into a nationwide business and then a global empire to acheive his fortune but after years at the top things that success began to drop and so new impetus was required at top level, you were the company that was trying its all to get that fortune but gambled too much to get there and had to be taken over to survive as a brand. that is what people, not just liverpool fans, resent, and they will resent it in any club that acheives success based purely and simply on the money that is thrown into the club. If we go on to acheive success on the back of our new owners I am sure you will point back at this and say that it is the same, but in the years prior to Roman, just how close had you got to winning the champions league or the premiership? we won it 2 years prior to our investment and got to the final the year it arrived (but before the cash) and finished second in the league in 2002. We need the money to push that extra step undoubtedly but it will be far from the same story as yourselves.

The majority of the post i can see where you are coming from and agree with to a point, although i see it slightly differently from you, and at the end of the day bit in bold is really the least important part of it, but my final words on it are that I do beleive that a history of success is better than a history without success, otherwise why have trophies in the first place, its not the taking part that counts in the long run.

i'm not judging what people can celebrate, i am giving my opinion on what people should celebrate. There is nothing wrong with fans of less successful clubs celebrating whatever they want to, but if one clubs fans celebrate trophies won, and one celebrates being an old club, then it spells out what they have acheived. On one hand you are saying a fan truly enshrined to its club will feel their history worth celebrating, and on the other you and many others on here want us to stop celebrating ours. with regard to your last point, i think you are wrong saying we lack balance. We may have areas of our history to regret but we have far far more positives to outweigh. We show respect to the dead and refuse to play on the anniversary of hillsborough (which although we regret hugely we did not cause). We welcomed Juve in 2005 with remorse but those things should not detract from what we have acheived which is light years ahead of your own acheivements. And do you have nothing to regret Chelsea? I never hear your club regretting any of your past. You seem to want a lot of things your way, just because we have a song that pisses you off. Perhaps your history isnt all that to be proud of.

dont disagree with you entirely Loz, but celevrating a clubs history is very different to accepting that a club has one. The idea that all clubs have a history worth celebrating is nonsensical. All clubs that have been around for a number of years will have some things that they can be very proud of, but not necesarily worth celebrating publically. All this seems to stem from our song about you, which you get very uspet about, but in relation to us, you dont have much history to 'celebrate'. perhaps the song should be re-worded but it is a football song and its purpose is to celebrate our club while belittling yours, its football banter, that is all. We have a long history of sustained success, and although we have not won the league for a long while, something that does upset us, we have still been successful in that time. We have won more trophies than any other english team, and more european cups than all but 2 of the clubs in Europe, if this is not worth celebrating then what is the point is winning things in the first place, for the players win bonuses only?

just to cure my curiosity, where does the relationship between rangers and chelsea stem from? Is it a long standing tradition or is it relatively new? I instanlty imagine it is due to the pro-brittish stance of the rangers fans and would guess it is also related to the hooligan factions of years past, but these are both guesses and may well be a long way off, but i would be interested to hear the answer. cheers.

i dont honestly know who you sold and for what, although i know you were happy to take significant losses on players such as Duff and Parker. Thinking about it, ?17m and ?10m respectively should have made my list. Also the liverpool list is since the "investment" as yours was supposed to be. I wasnt trying to compare our buys from one close season to all of yours, but since the investment you received you splashed cash like it was going out of fashion and lets be honest, you didnt try very hard to get much back in from sales, nothing significant that i can remember. All I am trying to say is that the money we have spent this close season as a Net figure is comparative to our usual budget, and i would guess well below that spent buy spurs and perhaps even West Ham once they finish.

Benitez is a great manager, not a god and neither is Jose, both ironically share the same work and team ethics as each other, the same interest in tactical changes and discipline above all else. Hell even our style of play is much the same! Their records are both shockingly similar - Benitez took unfashionable Valencia to glory in La Liga and Jose rescued Porto and took them back to the heights and ultimate glory in the CL. So yes both are great coaches but equally both have their weaknesses that some fans refuse to discuss whilst other perhaps dwell on too much. And they can't stand each other, they say opposites attract well in their case it's familiarity that breeds contempt. It's no secret that Jose had the chance to go to Liverpool before he picked Chelsea, I have no idea what would have happened if he had gone there, who is to say if he had with his obvious verve and charisma he could have taken them further with his easy adaptation to home and away games in the premiership (something Benitez seems to struggle with) and Liverpool could have won a PL title? Who's to say Benitez might be the one at Chelsea with no league titles but a CL for Roman to crow about? That said, I don't think either team would swap the manager they now have, despite at times their head scratching antics (Benitez with his tactics and Jose with his amateur dramatics). top post, agree with pretty much all of it, more or less.
