Under-21s Key To Earlier Doors
Most of the players you have named were bought from other clubs when the player was already playing first team football so they shouldnt really count as a youth player. Its easy for us to go and buy Ross Barkley or Luke Shaw (before he joined united) but they would still stop a youth player coming through our system.

Under-21s Key To Earlier Doors
I couldnt agree more. I would love to see some of the youth players be good enough and play for us. It would mean more to them and hopefully some of them would be Chelsea fans so it would mean more to win and hurt more to lose than your normal players. BUT what i wouldnt want to happen is us turn into Arsenal. I wouldnt want us to throw youth in for the sake of it and water down the quality of our team. As wonderful as it would be to see the likes of Baker starting for us it is more wonderful to see us winning the Champions league and the premier league. Im not saying we couldnt win those with the likes of Baker, anything is possible but i think it is fair to say that its more likely with a player like Fabregas.

Under-21s Key To Earlier Doors
Southampton arent a top team and a lot of their youth products were brought through when their were in league one and the championship, not when their were in the premier league. United did it at a time when they had hardly any real competition. Now days 5 teams can win the league and 6 or 7 can really push for top 4. Its different now days. Arsenal have had a couple but most have been bought a year before going into the first team like Walcott. Kind of like we have done with Zouma. Also Arsenal have won 1 FA Cup in the last 9 years. Finishing 4th was like winning the league to them. You same name a team without home grown players in, Well most of them do but the likes of City have bought theirs. United's home grown wouldnt get into any of the other top 4 teams. Liverpool have a few who have either been bought or were brought in when they werent really expected to challenge and the other one (Gerrard) was brought through a long time ago now. My point is there arent really any of the top 4 now that are bringing through youth year after year. Everton are the closest to the top 4 who are doing so and that is because they have to. They dont have the money to go and buy players and also they dont have the expectation of finishing in the top 4 and winning cups each season.

Name a top team in our league that has a spine of the team built on youth players they have brought through their system? I cant think of a single team.

Torres to Atletico Madrid ?!?!
The press are just guessing at names. An offer could come in for Oscar or Branna. Cech, Torres and Mikel are the easy names to say because of the signings we have already made this summer.

Under-21s Key To Earlier Doors
Not every youth player will be good enough to play for our first team. Would you rather we have a weaker first team and play some youth and then risk not winning anything or only put in the youth that are good enough and still go on to have a better chance of winning things?

I think it all comes down to what Lukaku is doing. If he asks to leave again then Torres will stay. If Lukaku grows a set and wants to stay and fight for his place then maybe Torres will be loaned out with us picking up a MAJOR part of his wages.

Torres to Atletico Madrid ?!?!
If only it worked that way. I do think we will see less of him playing his season but he wont be put aside like Malouda was purely because of what we pay him and what we paid for him. Although no one could blame us for not playing him (because he is sh*t) we would still come in for a hell of a lot of bad media attention if we dropped him and made him train with the U21's. Also he has two years left on his deal so dropping him wouldnt make sense. If we play him and he doesnt f**k up too badly then maybe next season we could loan him out or maybe even sell him but if he didnt play at all then there would be no chance of that.

I think it all depends on if Jose stays with us. I think if he is still here in 5 years time (I hope he is) then we will see some youth coming through but if he is sacked at the end of the season then the whole cycle will start all over again.

One Too Many...
I think he still counts as a under 21 but not homegrown. I think we just missed out on him being a homegrown player.

Torres to Atletico Madrid ?!?!
How can you pay a player 175k a week and then not have him in the squad? Unless Torres goes out on loan we are stuck with him taking up a squad place.

you could be right, the club may now say to a player you have to go. IF it was Torres a season long loan would be the most likely transfer.

Lukaku to Everton
Yes, Sturridge is a far better player and would suit us better. However I doubt Sturridge would come back to us to play second place again.
-
Torres to Atletico Madrid ?!?!
I dont feel sorry for him, he is earning a hell of a lot of money and also he could leave and go to a team that would suit his style of play better. Maybe, just maybe he might be able to find some kind of form again. BUT in my personal opinion I think he is quite happy to pick up his wages with us for the next two years.

Torres to Atletico Madrid ?!?!
I think this is why Jose wanted Costa and even Drogba back. You are right, Torres didnt worry teams.
-
Torres to Atletico Madrid ?!?!
I think it will be a midfielder that will go. Mikel maybe. Torres will be far too difficult to move on unless we pay part of his wages somewhere. I dont see him going back to Madrid now they have just signed two new strikers and are suppose to have agreed a deal for a 3rd.

The fee wasnt that great. We overpaid i think.

Maybe Remy refused to say Liverpool are the biggest club in the world so they pulled the plug on the deal.

I was so against signing Moses in the first place but he did an ok job in the one season he was with us. The problem is we have only just signed Salah so loaning him out after half a season doesnt look good. I do get your point about the home grown rule though. What is a surprise to me is these stories are coming out but he hasnt even returned to the club from his hols yet.

We should not be loaning him out. It doesnt help us out at all. We should make one of the team interested actually buy him.

Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
I think Drogba will surprise a few of you this season. There is life in the old Drog yet!

Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
Im actually not that worried about Torres this season. I think he will be used more for cup games. I think in the League Costa and Drogba will be used. Torres is just here to see out his contract and then he will be someone elses problem.
