I believe the werder Bremen midfielder is just what our central midfied needs. He moves the ball on superbly spreading it in all derections, and unlike last night would bring Malouda and Joey into the game a lot more, then Lamps and essien. The boy is sheer class and just what the team is crying out for.

Amazing how 2 people can view a performance form a player quite differently. Although his performance wasn't bad he does have a habit of moving the play in one direction all the time, rather then switching, dare I say it like a scholes or fabregas.

Although I was very very sad to see Jose leave, his general handling of Joe Cole was terrible. I for one don't think he really moved Joe's game on. I think Joe has got more defensively aware the older he has got. All this utter crap that he show boats and loses the ball too often is just not true. He has the type of game and flair that should be encouraged not styfled. The sooner we give him the footballing range and time on pitch that the likes of Ronaldo and Messi get we will never ever see how good he can be.

This really shouldn,t just be about a Gerrard Stevens thing (although he was very poor and the instigater of most of our long balls) it should be about Maclaren's horrific defensive tactics. Joe and sweepy had no chance of doing anything positive because the where playing right and left backs all game. Why was lescott playing so close to Sol Cambell leaving Joe covering 2 players. Why did we need every single player back at corners. These tactics happened in euro 2004 and world cup 2006, absoulutly nothing has changed Maclaren was no better then poor at Boro so what made the FA think he could do it onthe biggest stage of all.

The only thing that Gerrard stevens got right was actually saying Joe Cole was probably our best player on the night. One paper gave Joe as low as a 5 saying once again he was wasteful and kept losing the ball (he should look at the stevie g video at the start of this thread) and another he got an 8. I think we can safely say these ratings are a bit of a waste of time.

lets hope Rafa pulls Gerrard out of the upcoming France friendly, then we can see Lamps and Barry together. We may then see a few people realising the Gerrard isn't the only option.

What really pi**es me off is if Rooney had taken half the touches or ran and beat defenders like Joey did last night, the media would have been saying he is back to his world beating world class best. There is no doubt Messi is a truly exceptional player and I think one of the reasons (although there are many) he stands out is his acceleration from a standing start. I don't think he is as quick as Robben, Henry or Ronaldo over say 40 yards, but over that 1st 10 to 20 yards he is like Marion Jones on drugs. Messi and Joey in the same team, now that would bring us the sexy footie Roman wants.

Barce have looked superb this season, but they where actually at there best when Ronnie was out and Iniesta was playing down the left for 3 games earlier in the month I didn't ever think I would be saying a team looked better without Ronnie
