I don't like the sound of the word back up, I prefer the phrase 'more effective'. Agreed our midfielders are not the most creative but the main problem with our team is having two supposed world class strikers who need 5 chances on goal to put one in. I am not sure Anelka will score again this season, their is something about him I don't like as he has pace and technique but seems to lack conviction in front of goal which is puzzling. Edin Dzeko is a clinical striker and should be a someone we should be having a close look at (btw what does Piet De Visser the supposed Superscout do at Chelsea anyways?). I won't mind letting both forwards go as they are pushing 30 and in all honesty they will not get better next year but continue on the downward spiral.

They are not only pushing 30 they both already are. Both are still premier strikers in this league but they are slowing down year by year. I think we are going to involve either or both of them in the alleged "mass exodus" if something like that is going to happen. Drogs wants to stay but I think it will be up to our next manager how well he plays. Anelka is still pure class against lower opponents but against better sides he tends to disappear. I would love to see us giving Di Santo more chances and now that Drogs is injured maybe he has a chance against Liverp**l...

This Edin Dzeko looks very very promising and wouldn't mind taking a closer look at him. He could be our next Tore-Andre. He has scored 15 already this season and assisted 4. His record for his country is also impressive 15 games 9 goals!

Although Drogba is a quality player if he is to remain he can only be considered a squad player as he is plagued by injuries. We need someone dependable that will score 20 goals a season and do it in the big games as its clear we can't depend on anelka

We should return to our transfer policy which we had when jose first came to the club by buying players with a point to prove who are hungry to win trophies. Essien, Drogba, Robben, Duff, Cech all had talent but they did not have huge reputations or egos when they arrived and were all relatively un heard of on the global stage. Players like Carvalho and Ferrera even though they had just won the champions league were relatively un known. All our recent success came under these sort of transfers. All of our big reputation signings (with the exception of ashley cole) who have won top honours in other countries have all flattered to decieve : Deco, Ballack, Sheva, Malouda etc. When was the last time our scouting system unearthed a gem. Di Santo maybe but as of yet is unproven.

We should focus on players like Ashley Young, Yuri Zhirkov, Marek Hamsik, Daniel Sturridge, Edin Dserko, Vagner Love, even Quaresma who all have a point to prove at the highest level. At present we have to many egos who believe they are above sitting on the bench and are automatically guarenteed a place in the side like Ballack and Drogba. Fair enough Drogba is our best striker but he always has to be the centre of attention.

I think Dzeko has got the potential to fight for the first chice, but he will need time to adapt.
