Just Wondering

Featured Replies

Hi watching the match with my son on Tuesday in his yellow goalkeepers top after going 2 goals down and thinking

that we are going to lose my wife came into the room and told my son you got that top on again you are going to lose so he pops upstairs puts on his blue top on I change my seating to another part of the room and well the rest

as you say is history,so all you fans have my son to thank.ps is it just me and my son or do we all do stuff like this

B)

I think it's a common thing, I never wear my top when we're playing because we tend to pull ties each time B) It comes back to the old superstition in sport. My High-School coach always wanted us to play with a selected football for some reason, he said it brought us luck. It's a common thing I suppose, or just something to blame after a defeat or bad performance.

During our 4 year unbeaten home run I wore the same underwear. No one would come within a mile of me!!

Maybe you should have taken Cech place in net, I believe even the ball wouldn't have come near you B)

I can vouch for that - I've never come within a mile of him!

Not just you aliboy - I will often take off a chelsea shirt, or put one on in order to switch the outcome of the game.

Truth be told, I think I've been personally accountable for us getting at least 7 points this year in the league. B)

Back about 6/7 years ago whenever we were playing poorly whilst me and the old man were watching on T.V., he'd have to 'resort' to fetching a bottle of London Pride from the kitchen (out of necessity for the cause obviously). Nearly always got us a goal.

I am terrible at this - I might even have invented it back in about 1960 - keys in this pocket change in the other etc - my latest is it has to be red wine and sitting on the floor - that didn't work on Tuesday - tried several different positions for me and the red wine - in the end I won the game for us by standing up and the red wine on the mantelpiece - nothing to do with Drogba or Lampard you fools.

It was made more difficult by the fact I had packed in the fags 2 weeks ago after 40 years - I wont go into the superstitions with ciggies.

I've been meaning to start a thread on superstitions.

I wear my black kit with a blue and white scarf each match, with the crest on the left, but any other kind of memorabilia is never good. And if I'm not watching at the beginning of the 2nd half the other team always scores.

Whether watching the game live or on the telly, I have to see the kick-off at the beginning of either half. This can sometimes leads to me staring unable to blink for far more time then is comfortable.

If the opposing team has a free-kick in a dangerous position, I have to study the opponents movement right up until he first makes contact with the dead-ball then I have to look away and not look back at the pitch or the screen until I hear the crowd exclamation of relief or the commentator confirming that we have cleared the ball.

Sad isn't it?!

Wow! Thats quite a routine, it must get annoying.

When I'm at a pub watching a match, I've got this one superstition. I can't have a totally empty pint in front of me when the referee blows the whistle at the end of the first half. The same goes for full time whistle as well. I need to be able to take at least a sip after the ref has blown the whistle.

I have a similar superstition, all though it ahs nothing to do with Chelsea, I just cant have an empty glass in front off me, wonder why.

At the Bridge it has to be buying the programme from the same programme stand, enter the ground through the same turnstile, cup of tea from same stall inside, watch the large TV at the end of the MHL, walk to the other end to check the odds for first goalscorer, walk back to the large TV and make sure I'm in my seat an hour before the game. We haven't lost one yet since I've sarted that routine which was the game after the loss to Arsenal.

Well I had the privilege of sitting next to Val on Saturday at Wembley and whilst we were trailing 1-0 she announced that she had to pay a visit and that doing so was usually good for a goal. Lo and behold, two minutes later Malouda slots the equaliser.

Who says superstitions are nonsense? !!

Obviously it has to do with the fact that I like beer, but I think my superstition also stops me from wandering off to the bar to order a pint during the final moments of either half. I've watched my teams concede way too many late goals while waiting for the bartender to pour my pint.

Just stay at the bar, works for me.

If things are not going well - I swap seats with the guy next to me - never fails

I sometimes swap positions with the wife but it means me lying next to the bloke from next door. Still, if it helps us win.........

When you believe in things you don't understand...

What lengths do you go to to 'help' Chelsea? Be honest...

Had a great yrs back when a comedy show up here showed a Celtic fan listening to the Old Firm game indoors. They scored and he was in part of the living room then Rangers scored and he rushed back to where Celtic scored. It was funny because I'm a bit like that too - if I'm at a particular place when a good result comes Rangers' way then I'll try to be there when there's another important game.

I know it's silly but what the hey...

Haha,

it's funny superstition (and I'm not talking the fantastic Stevie Wonder here). Being a golfer there are many superstitions floating around....even to the point of people thinking that superstition is to sucumb to the devil!

However, my deal, when watching Chelsea is to make sure that when we play at hime I wear an away top, and when we play away I wear a home top!
