Watching Sir Bobby Charltons last game at Chelsea
Saw him play a few times but not that game. Met him about 4 years ago at the Open golf and he stopped to let me take a picture with him for my friend. was very friendly and a little shorter than he seemed on the pitch. I remember him being on a quiz program called Double Your Money and he answered questions on pop music. he got through to final where you were meant to go in a sound proof box (very dramatic) - but because of the trauma he had suffered in Munich air disaster he was allowed not to go in the box. He answered all the question and won the top prize ............£1000 ooooh. I will never forget his goal against Mexico in '66 that got our world cup off and running - great player.

Chelsea vs Spurs (FA CUP) - 22nd April 2017
Not much is being made of the Alli stamp on Luiz. If you are running and expect to land your foot on grass but land on something solid like a stone or a human leg you would turn round to see what it was - weather it is wembley or tooting bec common (but thats more likely to be dog turd there). Alli just continues to walk away like the experienced thief does from the scene of the crime. It will not get the same coverage as Costa crimes which we have to live with. And I take back all my comments and thoughts about Matic as he caused an unexpected hug from my 22 year old son... very nice. As for Jenas - it seems you shouldn't count really good goals like Matic, well Kanes header was supposedly brilliant and so was the pass from Erickson so they dont count, the free kick from Willian was a bit special and the penalty was soft so rub them out as well. That just leaves the goal from Hazard which was just fairly ordinary so it was just a 1-0 win then.

Chelsea Vs Brentford (FAC) Sat 28/01 2017 KO 15:00 GMT
Great weekend -took my son to Bridge for my birthday treat. had to buy the hospitalty package (don't tell the wife). My last home game was 2006 so if you divide the cost by 11 its not so bad. Bumped into Chopper - said hello like I knew him which impressed my son. Colin Pates, John Bumstead and Paul Canoville did the hosting thing which was ok. Had a chat with Colin Pates after the game and he said best player he played with was Pat Nevin (no surpise) and best opponent was Johan Cruyff in a friendly. Plenty to drink and great result, as was the Liverpool game. We were not so impressed with Chalobah - he was quite wasteful early on. Loftus-Cheeks good in parts but he does look lazy sometimes. Ake was tidy and Batshuayi good with the ball at his feet but not so good as target man. Nice to see JT strolling around and good cameo from Ivanovic. We were in West Stand and surrounded by people who seemed quite disinterested. A group nearby came back 10 minutes late after half time and then left at least 10 minutes before the end. When we scored we did the normal leap in the air but the people behind just sat rooted. Went to a pub after the game and such a good atmosphere - made a change for us to be in a boozer with just Chelsea fans (we live in Penrith, Cumbria - originally from Battersea). Good curry in Earls Court and slept on the train coming back.

Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager
The bloke has not got a clue - we all know Ivanovic is awful why cannot managers see this ? From back to front it was terrible - only Costa seems interested .

Unholy Confessions
You'll never walk alone is from the musical Carousel - gerry & pacemakers had a hit with it in the early sixties - many different fans would sing it but because of the "Liverpool sound" thing of the sixties (Beatles, Searchers, Pacemakers etc) the scousers treated as their own song, The first semi-final I went to in 1965 we were down 2-0 and about to lose and the whole ground was sing it (me included) - very moving and did not really think it was totally Liverpool song until later. Because other teams had their own anthems - Liverpool, West Ham (bubbles), Newcastle(Blaydon races), Spurs (Glory glory hallelujah ) - Chelsea via the program had contests to see if we could adopt own anthem - can only remember "Strolling" being tried and failing miserably. Apologies for the history lesson.

Branislav Ivanovic - Your Views?
I think it is Mourinho's stubborn streak tht has kept Ivanovic in the team for so long - by dropping him it would be saying the media and the fans are picking the team and not Jose and he can't have that.
-
What's gone wrong? Why are we so bad?
Yes I agree with Davey - disappointed with Mikel selection (and Ivanovic) against Everton. As for KDB I didn't believe all the hype over his form last season but have to say when he came on on Saturday for City he was brilliant - his passing was instinctive and enterprising. nearly always looking forward. Set up a brilliant chance for Navas and had a decent effort from outside the box.

QPR vs Chelsea (PL) 12/04/2015 KO: 13:30 GMT
Been a supporter for 57 years - and this is the toughest time ever - it's much easier when we are 5th or 6th and have 4 great games a season and no aspirations. Thought we were marginally better when Oscar came on - he didn't do much but takes up better positions. Hazard and Fabregas were poor but they created and scored the winner.

Following Our Nearest and Dearest Rivals, 2014-15
carragher such a sportsman - I remember when Frankie was lining up to take a penalty at Anfield and the great Carra was shouting in Franks ears to miss it like a 13 year old schoolboy

Chelsea v Burnley (PL) 21/02/2015 KO 15:00 GMT
well barnes should have been off in the first half - knee in the back of Ivanovic and same against Luis
-
Peter Borota the Clown
I can't remember who it was against - we scored and Peter ran behind the goal to celebrate with the Shed fans - trouble was the goal was disallowed and he was still punching the air - then descended into panto farce with us all shouting "behind you" as the other team were coming on the attack. Great character.

Sir Tom Finney has died aged 91
My first game at Stamford bridge was against Preston in 1958. Tom Finney waltzed around 3 Chelsea defenders and the keeper and then side-footed the ball wide of the empty goal. I was in awe of him - he could play left wing, right wing and centre forward. I saw him a few years later at the Bridge, he had retired but played in an all stars XI for Frank Bluntstones testimonial. He scored a penalty, the ball in top right hand corner and the keeper going the other way. There are many old stories from former team mates. A couple I like - It was either Tommy Docherty or Bill Shankly (both played behind Tom) who said if they were tired they would get the ball to Tom and ask him to run around with it for 10 minutes. The other was definitely Shankly when asked many years after Tom's retirement if the current Liverpool winger was as good as Tom Finney he replied "Aye probably but ye have ta remember Tom is nearly 60".

Graham Parker & The Rumour, Dr. Feelgood on TV tonight
Wilko Johnson (Dr Feelgood) has sadly been diagnosed with terminal cancer and is embarking on the ultimate farewell tour - not many dates. I took my son to see him a year or so ago in Kendal - great night

Last Movie You Watched
Our local cinema in Penrith shows alternative films on Sunday afternoon - seen some good ones in last 12 months . The Guard with Brendan Gleeson as the local cop on west coast of Ireland - pretty funny The Hunt - Danish film about nursery school teacher wrongly accused of abusing pupil - very haunting What Richard Did - slow moving Irish film about well off lads about to go off to Uni when all goes bad in big way at party The Raid - Indonesian martial arts - not usually my thing but very well done - pretty brutal. Just ordered Cool Hand Luke and The Natural from amazon

Champions League 2012/2013
Think Nani straightened his leg after he made first contact - gave it a bit extra - he also looked over his shoulder before the challenge so knew there was someone coming

Chelsea v Juventus (CL) 19/09/12 KO 19:45 BST
Mikel gave the ball away far too much - especially in 1st 20 mins not just for the goal - as for Frankie he got lucky with big mistake and most of his passes I could have made - there is nothing unusual or innovative about our play - take a right winger (who is really a midfielder ) off and bring on a left back - I think its great to have 2 such good left backs but don't think they should be on pitch at same time - not when you have a half decent right winger (Moses) or 2nd striker (Sturridge) on bench. Problem is RDM has picked more or less same team each game - Fergie tweaks his team for each game - if Rooney is on bench so what - he is just being rested - now if Torres or Lampard or Mickel (hopefully) not picked for next game - big headlines "NNNNNNN Dropped" etc - unrest in dressing room !!! - please try something different RDM. Apologies if I have repeated other posts - it takes me a long time

Is Football Racist? - BBC3 tonight, 9pm
"Mind you, I can remember a one-armed bloke playing against us in the early 70's - the 13-0 match with Jeunesse Hautcharage. Didn't think much of it at the time, but then the whole ground erupted in hysterics when he forgot himself and went to take a throw-in. And I'm pretty sure one of their other players was wearing glasses - all true!" I remember that game - think they were playing in sort of lime green luminous shirts - but might have been another game - also thought "lefty" was the one wearing glasses but memory becoming dim

Good luck JT
Cople of points : 1 -Why was there no sign in court as a witness of the off duty policeman who lodged the original complaint - which apparently set the ball rolling. Was he just a figment of Anton's agent. 2 - When St Stevie G was found not guilty of assault the press just went quiet and did not refer to it again- just took the verdict as gospel - dont think this will be the case this time

Gordon West RIP
He was a really good keeper, brave and a bit of a character. He fell on hard times after retiring and taken advantage of by money lenders but Everton helped him later in life and restored his dignity. Sadly succumbed to cancer.

FA Youth Cup 2011/12 Thread
in Penrith - brought up in south london - brixton, battersea then moved around a bit. came here in 1996. usually watch the games in the royal in penrith - a few chelsea fans from the 80's period go there. Have a couple of mates coming up next week from London to do some walking in Lake District - one west ham fan and one true blue - so dont think we'll be doing much walking on 19th.

FA Youth Cup 2011/12 Thread
Went to the game with my son. Although we didn't play well we enjoyed the occasion. Being in Cumbria we dont get many chances to see the blues. Its the first youth game I have seen since the early 60's - chopper Harris etc. Piazon is real class - he receives the ball so well - just glides onto it. Most of the good stuff came from him, he created 3 or 4 good chances but sadly not put away. It must have been tough for him - freezing cold, pouring rain and a very physical team who were really up for it. He did not always enjoy the attention he was getting but stuck at it. Not convinced by many of the other lads - Kane looks good and Chalobah also. Baker pretty good. Kiwomya is a real flier but not much else (yet). Feruz did not get much service but seems lively, pacy and puts himself about. Just depends on attitude I think - how they develop over the next few seasons. In the days of Chopper Harris they were competing for a place with lads from Wandsworth, Epsom, East London, Woking but now they compete with lads from France, Brazil etc. Told my son to keep the programme and have a look in a few years time to see who made the grade.

MOTM vs Barca
I went for Franky as an apology for all the slagging I've given him the last 2 years - 2 brilliant passes in these games are why we are in the final - along with more than a few brave performances from the rest of the boys.

Tales of games in the DAY when you exp the shed being taken
I remember West Ham clearing out the shed in 1966. My mate and me used to stand just to the left of the shed but this day we went with his dad who insisted on going in the west stand (first time I sat down). The Hammers boys came in with bats and wearing long coats - bit like Jesse James cowboys. Chelsea lads took a bit of a pasting - I was glad to be sitting down. Game finished 5-5 - what a boring day. Worst thing I witnessed at a game was a pre-season friendly between Rangers (Glasgow) and Arsenal at highbury around 1970. The Rangers fans had taken over most of the north bank forcing the Arse to the back. An Arsenal fan decided to lob a bottle into the Rangers and boy did they retaliate - Rangers lads threw their bottles at the roof of the stand so the glass shattered and rained down on the Arsenal boys - surprising there was no major disaster because people were running everywhere. I think that was the last time that friendly was played - up to then it had been a regular curtain raiser to the season.

Swansea City v Chelsea (PL) 31/01/12 KO 19:45 GMT
swansea been the better team from 1st minute - they are so much more comfortable on the ball - retain possesion better - I'm sorry but this manager has not got a clue - anyone that picks malouda constantly and worse plays him in midfield does not understand the game - malouda could have got a red for that challenge. This is the poorest Chelsea team since god knows - I have been a supporter for over 54 years and cant remember a team with so little fight and basic passing ability.
