Guest bigjockknew
I'd appreciate views. I'm getting either a PS3 or x-box. What is best. It will chiefly be for gaming and I'm not overly fussed about the online stuff. Ruh Buh Juh
In theory, PS3 is better, but it seems 360s are much more popular. I personally prefer 360s because after playing both, I prefer the 360 controller, and I think the graphics are better. I know that sounds odd, but I played InFamous on the PS3 recently, and even though it's a good game, I wasn't impressed with the graphics. And that's the same with all the other PS3 games come to think of it. I think with the PS3 they've tried to do too much with a PS3, and 360s are simple brilliance. Personally anyway. Red ring of death - it''s what happens when your 360 breaks. The normal green colours around the On/Off button will go red. If you get just one line of red, it'll survive, two bit of an issue, three it's blown up.

PS3 seems technically better when you read the specs, but apparently is a lot more difficult and time consuming to programme for and has tried too hard to be all things for all people. 360 has better games, better and bigger online capability and better controllers. the RROD on the 360 is not anywhere near as big a problem with the newer machines because they changed the board, the chipset and the dvd player. get an elite, get online and get beat by me at FIFA (this may be a lie as im bloody rubbish at fifa)
mad_mac
Not played the 360, and not bothered with the online stuff, but I've always stood by the sony products. I've got a PS3...which acts as a built in blue-ray dvd player also, and it's great!
sexelk
ps3 wipes the floor with the x-box not sure what you mean bout the controllers being better. 5 mins on one of those bricks and your hands start to get sore. the ps3 controller has six-axis function which in some games can act in the same sort of way as a wii controller. and the analog on the x-box is so unresponsive the x-box has reached the limit of it's capabilities as well where as they are only scratching the surface of the ps3's potential and i know you said you're not really interested in the online stuff but i'm sure you'd like to have it there... 40 quid or something to buy x-box online for a year where as everything is free on the ps3. and if you get fifa or something then it's great having the online available. it has it's own internet browser and an application which lets you watch loads of music vids for free simple choice really

sexelk
my housemate has an x-box and you really notice the difference when playing fifa on both. the analog on the xbox is like usin the d-pad on the ps3. he is really crap on the ps3 and he complains about the analog being too sensitive. (he's crap on the x-box as well but that's another matter :P) there is nothin wrong with ps3's online capability also everything is an extra on the xbox. ps3 has everything built in. they probably work out the same price by the time you have bought all the add on's for the xbox

sexelk
its better than a normal blue ray dvd player though because they become obsolete but sony can update the blue ray on the ps3 so you won't have to shell out another hundred odd quid on a new blue ray player
Ruh Buh Juh
Sorry, mate, but 360s are just better. Everything is a lot more organised on the Xbox I reckon. And the beauty of not having all these extra add ons for the xbox is that you don't waste 30 mins every few hours downloading the latest thing. I've only downloaded one thing for my xbox and that was the new layout, and that's it. But when I've been over my friends house who has a ps3, mid-way through a game on COD I think he had a download thing. He accepted, and it was taking ages so we went out for about an hour. We came back in and it had finished, so we played a bit more. An hour or so later, a new download thing came up. It was the most annoying thing ever!! g3.7
swapped my wii which was gathering dust for months for a ps3 just last week. I mainly use it for playing the films off my external hd through the telly, and for that alone it's great.
Sheva
I've had an Xbox 360 for along time now and i decided to buy a PS3 mainly for Blu-ray. Had a go at the PS3 gaming wise and for me it's nothing compared too the 360. I have about 5 or 6 games on the PS3 and i haven't played at least 10 mintues into any of them simply because the Xbox is just a far better gaming console. It's alot my user friendly however i enjoy the 360 alot because of Xbox Live and it's a must have if you want to get the most out of it. I don't call my PS3 a PS3, it's my Blu-ray player. ivorycoast
You can't go wrong with either, I would probably get a ps3 personally, but fifa plays better on the 360 I think. I think you can only move in 8 directions with the ps3 analogue, where on the 360 you can move anywhere.

Guest bigjockknew
Thanks one and all - this now goes down to single status outcome at work but if I survive that it will very probably be a 360 - I think, thanks for all opinions
dkw
I've never heard of teh 3 rings of death on a Sony product true, but the ps3 isnt the most stable piece of kit either, it just doesnt have one major problem like the 360.

Gem
Interesting SW... I too am wondering which console is best - always been a Sony girl as I've not had a product yet which has gone wrong. I'd only use it for computer games, football basically... Pro Evo most likely. Stupid question - but for these football games can you only use analogue? or can you use the normal up down left right? On the Wii (now moved to the front room for the family) I bought a normal hand set and Fifa 09 and was distraught you could only use the gear shirt and not the buttons.
