the first of a run of predicatble quotes from the dull one ahead of the league game against poirtsmouth where he claims he was the dog's bollox as chelsea manager when anyone with half a brain knows it was jose's team, with the players taking control of things and him just being a figurehead while they waited to appoint a permanent successor....anyone who doubts such a theory should ask themselves the question, why has it taken him this long to get another job?

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/bl...icle253219.html

Be as it may be I still dont get why he was given a 3 year contract if there was so much surity of a successor . Either that or we just love to compensate people .

If anyone see's half a Brain rolling around can you let me know? I knew my Hat was too big for a reason.

I liked this little quote from the Article

"A history that has still to be matched. Grant remains an object of scorn for some Chelsea fans. Yet it was he - not Claudio Ranieri, Mourinho, Luis Felipe Scolari or Guus Hiddink - who took Roman Abramovich closest to his Holy Grail."

Thanks mate but as you say, that half is likely hers..

I read the story and noticed some similarities though,

Woman with half a brain

Doctors treating a Chinese woman who complained of feeling weak discovered she only had half a brain.

The woman, 39, from Wuhan city, has lived a perfectly normal life and only got sent into hospital after after her Doctor reported she had shown respect for Avram Grant.

Zhang Linhong, director of Neural Rehabilitation Department at the local hospital, said: "On the MRI scans we were surprised to see that she only has grey matter on the right side.

"Our usual understanding is that the left brain controls language. But this patient has no problem communicating with people."

The woman's mother said her daughter lives a very normal life.

"She graduated from high school with good marks. Her memory is very good. She remembers phone numbers and names immediately."

She also remembers the Jose Mourinho team actually losing games under Jose Mourinho, a symptom that her Doctor should have picked up on earlier.

Never got the hate for this guy. Still feel he was made the scapegoat for Jose's departure, as we feel maybe a little ungrateful to be blaming Roman. Hope he gets a good reception Wednesday to be honest.

what an absolute prick! going out of his way to defend his professional pride like that.

yes i mean not long after he left he said he never wanted to sign anelka and didn't rate him...now he's trying to take the credit for his signing and the fact he's doing so well...what a swell guy!

none of you have come up with an explanation as to why he's been out of work for so long since the champs league final and ended up at lowly portsmouth, having done to paul hart what he did to jose

Decent result for Avi's boys again today, he really is getting them motivated..I think out of his loyalty to us he might get them to take it easy next time.

I agree, Paul Hart was doing brilliant with Portsmouth, and now Avram has them drawing away to a team that beat Liverpool.

intersting how you guys are all sticking up for the guy who inspired us to lose to s*urs in carling cup final, played anelka wide on left wing and was seen scratching his head while JT gave the teamtalk...so far none of you have given much of a counter arguement apart from using sarcasm

Grant had less of a season to work with somebody else's team, the team he hasn't assembled or prepared. We had a very impressive record under Grant especially considering the epidemic of injuries that plagued us throughout his short tenure and African Cup of Nations coincided with it. We made it to the League Cup final, ran MU all the way to the last day in the PL race and came a penalty kick short of winning the CL.

I don't know how much input Avram had in the way the team performed at the time but it seems that his critics tend to blame him for all the errors yet deny him any credit for anything remotely positive. You can't have your cake and eat it,too.

You can't have your cake and eat it,too.

What would be the point of having cake and not being able to eat it? I have never understood that.

(and no, the thread title isn't a typo!)

it's not possible to provide a counter argument to a non existant argument.

I'm not saying he should have stayed, I'm saying there is no problem with him defending his record at the club.

you don't like him, and whatever quotes were up there, you'd have used them to try and prove that all of us should dislike him. you go so far as to suggest anyone who disagrees with you has half a brain, a wholly comic suggestion given that your core argument is based on whispers and tabloid logic.

"I hate this man, look at his bad quotes, he didn't do anything it was all the players and clarke, he was rubbish and if you disagree you're a moron"

... is not an argument. it's incendiary nonsense, sure, and I concede there is a place for that on the internet. however, I'd suggest that place would be under youtube videos moreso than a discussion forum.

No problem with Grant whatsoever. I think he did an okay job at a difficult time, although I could never see him being our manager long term (but he was certainly a lot better than Big Phil Scolari).

Wish him all the best and I hope he keeps Pompey up, 'cos I like Pompey - after we've given them a good tonking on Wednesday first of course.

seems i'm swimming against the tide on this one...surprised but obviously i'm the one with half a brain! haven't changed my opinion on him, especially every time I remember his 'look at me' moment when we got to champs league final

I think this is the key point. I think the people running the club, like Kenyon and whoever, thought Avram Grant wasn't a big enough name, so they got rid of him and appointed Scolari who was a World Cup winning manager.

I also think a lot of Chelsea fans felt the same way, and this is a lot to do with why they were insisting Scolari should have been given more time even though it was obvious things were getting worse and worse the longer he was in charge.

I always felt that the main problem with Grant was that he was given a permanent contract. If he had been appointed on a caretaker basis and got the results he did I think a lot of people would have said he'd done pretty well.

Having said that I never saw him as long term and share some of your frustrations - the worst being on the train back from Wembley full of Spuds, but with regard to him bigging himself up and changing a bit of history - what do you expect - its all about business and money now.

BTW Grants 'look at me' moment was fully eclipsed by Kenyon going up for a medal like he'd won it personally

'eeeeeeeeeeeeee, aaaaaaaaaaaaaa, oooooooooooooooo, eeeeeee welllllllllllllll, eeeeeeeeee, aaaaaaaaaaaa welllllllllllllllll, emmmmmmmm, eeeeeeee, aaaaaaaaa......... Dis is football'.

That is a quote from AG to almost any question put to him in any aftermatch interview during his time at the club. The return of Baron Greenback, the back door manager.

Has he ever applied for a job or does he just turn up when things are'nt going to well and tell the chairman what he wants to hear and how he could do things different/better.

I bet he goes down a storm at the league managers association.

Anybody at Wembley in the CC final could see who was running the team and it was'nt AG. Terry and Clarke were doing all the work and he looked like he was having some kind of break down, and the players did'nt give a sh*t about anything he MIGHT have to say.

I have to agree with Brit here, i think getting to the CL final was JM's team doing it in spite of AG not because of or for him.

Just my opinion but i did'nt like him at the time and some of the things he has come out with since hav'nt done anything but convince me i made the right decision.

And here is is again getting another job through the back door at another managers expense. I just dont like the way the man opperates.

Hmmm I don't think you're being fair on Avram here. I don't think he even applied for the job as manager of Chelsea or Portsmouth. When he took over for us, he was already on the staff so I think really he was a temp solution even though he was given a permanent contract, and he went back to Portsmouth where they knew him already and I'm guessing it was quicker and easier and cheaper for them to give him the job than look for someone else.
