Wii

Featured Replies

Didn't find a thread about Nintendo Wii (though I didn't look that far back to be honest) so I thought we should have one.

Does anyone here own a Wii?

My dad bought one a few weeks ago because our neighbours had one. My dad is 65 years old and my neighbours are even older.

I thought I would be the one who would scream for one, but apparently older people enjoy it as well, possibly even more.

Anyway, after playing tennis, bowling, golf etc. for awhile we got another game with table tennis and some other stuff.

I simply can't get enough of that game. The one who came up with the idea for Wii should get an award.

One downside is that in some games I have reached more or less as far as I can go. I can't beat my highscore in 100 pin bowling and I can't beat the champion in table tennis.

Still, there's lots of other games to enjoy.

Gonna have to try some "real" games soon, like Super Mario or something to see what that is like.

But now I have another game to occupy myself with.

Yesterday my dad borrowed Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus from my brother and I game the latter one a try today.

Oh my God it was hard.

I spent an hour trying different games out and subsequently burnt quite a few calories.

I think I looked extremely silly when I tried hoola hoops, but is sure was fun....and hard.

So, anyone else have Wii and perhaps have tried some of the games I've played?

Not sure how much replay value it has, but I rather enjoyed playing Boom Blox(I've heard the new one is better) with my brother during the Christmas holidays in 2008. Mario Kart is another one that's been a blast. I was surprised that it was pretty fun even when playing it solo. FIFA was just plain weird. I spent about two hours just learning the basics because the controls were so different.

I do enjoy playing the Wii, I have to say. I only have 3 games for it though - Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics, the latter is the most fun I've had gaming in a long, long time.

I want a Mario Kart game as whenever I've played, it's been an absolute blast.

good fun to begin with, soon get bored of it though. good novelty games machine, not a "real" gamers machine though really.

OR, you could go and do real sport in the real world with and against real people.

Jeeezus, I'm feeling old and crabby today!

Well, you are old!

As for feeling crabby, what do you expect if you've been messing about with your inflatable sheep after JT's been at it? :D

It's a much more social gaming machine than these so called "real gamers" consoles. I get the most fun out of Wii with a bunch of friends gathered in the same living room. Sure, you can play games against online opposition with all these consoles, but it's just not the same to me. Also...I think there's more innovation packed into some of those Wii games than into a dozen of these "real" games. I got bored of first person shooters around 1996 and those massive online multiplayer roleplaying whatevers just look like massive wastes of time. I haven't tried all these guitar games after they've introduced multiple instruments to them, but before that I just didn't see the appeal. Tried it, didn't like it. I like how the people at Nintendo tend to think outside the box and come up with some seriously weird and unique ideas. Sometimes they don't work, but at least it's not the same old BS.

Not that I do much gaming, mind you. I don't own a console of any sort so I'm terribly out of touch with what's new and couldn't tell you what the new hot game is, but I do enjoy the occasional gaming with good friends. It's something fun to do while we're having a few beers.

I would agree with you, were it not for the fact that I used to be scathing about people who played cards on their computers. Now that I'm addicted to Spider Solitaire I don't feel able to pass judgement on Wii-ers!

it is a laugh to play after a few bevvys. but its not the kind of machine to play alone too often, thats why i said its not really a gamers machine of choice.

Yeah, I know what you mean. That's why I like it more than the other consoles. I like the whole social aspect of gaming that comes with Wii.

Playing Supermario Wii at the moment. If you like Mario games get this one, find all the star coins on the first 8 worlds and you get to play World 9.

World 9 is absolutely brilliant.
