See there was a non-league thread for Mike so I thought I would keep you all updated on the Blues of the A-League, the Pride of Australia and Asia- the one, the only...Sydney FC!

For those who don't know we sacked our German manager Pierre Littbarski, despite him winning the inaugural title. Why?

He was deadset boring. biggrin.gif That, and he refused to sign a new contract.

We also kept our beloved chairman Walter Bugno after substiantiated rumours that the FFA were trying to put their own candidate on the Sydney FC board.

He has been replaced by one Terry Butcher, who has already declared the 'War on Diving' and set out to play "exciting, attractive football". He has been quite active in the transfer market, with Sydney securing the signings of promising 19-year olds Jeremy Brockie (NZ) and Ruben Zadkovich(19), as well as 21-year old Alex Brosque who was not so long ago touted as a future star on the level of Viduka, or Kewell. However his development was massively stunted in Belgium, though age is still on his side.

Pre-Season Games

We've got off to a fantastic start, being Queensland Roar 2-1 away at Suncorp stadium. Sasho Petrovski scored the first and Alex Brosque netted a great second against his former club.

Tommorow we are off to Canberra to play the Newcastle Jets in the freezing surrounds of Bruce Stadium! Newcastle were the only team in the league we didn't beat, being held to draws.

That's not Asia... icon_rolleyes.gif ... the pride of Asia is "pork rib tea", excuse me. icon_wink.gif

For "fantastic" read "lucky". icon_wink.gif

I think I'm going to support that club. What a wonderful name biggrin.gif

Anyone for a p*ss-up in Australia?

The Roar are the Oranje of the A-League, Valerie!

Exciting but naive attacking football, although to date there haven't been any major bust-ups.

Just a matter of time!

Are they thinking they're better than they actually are? Already organising an open bus ride? Yes? That's my Oranje icon_lol.gif

A bit like Chelsea at times, mind you icon_lol.gif

Qaz,

Glory fans shag goats. This is fact.

Anyway...we beat Newcastle Jets 2-1!!

New signing Niko Topor-Stanley (a defender) scored the first and Robbie Middleby scored the second biggrin.gif but we let in an own goal. Butcher reckons he's impressed with the defense...hrm.

Bump!

Thrashed Perth Glory 3-0 icon_lol.gif

Alex Brosque + David Carney = AHAHAHA

Yorke is out with a groin strain. Not surprised at that, not at all, considering he was at Hugo's nightclub as soon as he returned icon_rolleyes.gif

Convieniently forgot to mention Adelaide beat us in the final of the pre-season cup.

Dodgy, dodgy goal, but never the less... :(

Season starts next Friday night, I can barely wait. We have some awesome banners and flags prepared for this game, but we are struggling to get them done on time so it seems.

I'll take photos and put them up here. Soon.

Alright.

So our sworn enemy (Erm, Melbourne Victory) beat our sworn rivals (Adelaide United) 2-0 on the opening day of the season. I think I should be happy for Melbourne because frankly Adelaide are a) Red and :P cheating s.

Kevin Muscat (of Millwall fame) scored a penalty, and Brazillian import Claudinho (little Claude? What the...?) scored a neatly finished second.

Their Brazillian signings looked good. In a completely footballing sense. Alessandro's neat scissor-stepover combo was brilliant and instrumental in him winning the penalty for their first goal.

Tommorow night:

Valerie's Queensland Roar take on Qaz's Perth Glory at Suncorp Stadium in sunny Brisbane. Perth Glory will be looking to ex-Birmingham winger Stan Lazaridis for their inspiration. Queensland having nothing much to look forward to, really. They will probably romp this one, 2-0 or 3-0, as Perth to put it nicely are sh*te. icon_lol.gif

Well, I was right on two counts.

Queensland Roar did in fact batter Perth Glory 3-0. A good performance from them, quite dominant IMO. Perth are going to have a hell of a battle to keep from finishing last.

We won 1-0, thanks to an Iain Fyfe goal. Fyfe is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. He nutmegged himself once and had several miskicks this evening. But the best performance came from One Clint Bolton, four world-class saves from close range, the standout being a grasp at a ball off the head of Adam Kwasnik.

CCM really turned the screws in the first and last 15 minutes. A team to watch, they are very hard-working and break very quickly. Should make the finals again this season.

I need some Aussie help.

In the old days, on the summer pools coupons, there used to be a team playing in the Aussie leagues called............................. Chelsea !

Are they still going ?

I remember them! I used to watch out for their results, but I think they managed to lose every week. I think they used to play in the Victoria League(?), and seemed to get relegated every season icon_lol.gif

True BB. I seem to remember they were in one of the lower leagues and not very good. A bit like the SW6 Chelsea, at that time.

I've never heard of them.

There is a suburb in Melbourne called Chelsea, so it might have something to do with that.

Queensland Roar just beat the Newcastle Jets 3-2 away icon_eek.gif

Exciting first half but all 5 goals were scrappy and from defensive mistakes. Paul Okon, the former Australian captain, had a shocker for Newcastle in defense.

That means Valerie could be singing "top of the league, having a laugh"

Until Super Clasico De Australia, Melbourne Victory vs Sydney FC.

We travel to our hated rivals with the biggest second-city complex I've ever experienced.

Last season they unfortunately thrashed us 5-0. However, sucks to be them, a run of 7 (SEVEN) straight defeats after that and they didn't even make the finals. icon_lol.gif

I know how to pick winners joy.gif I fully expect "us" to be top of the league still after Melbourne v Sydney icon_wink.gif
