ethicalstrategy Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Netherlands v. Slovakia 15:00 BST Brazil v. Chile 19:00 BST Well, the world cup goes on despite losing it's best team to a FIFA conspiracy. A couple of also-rans playing today. The Dutch should scrape past Slovakia. I read Robben will be on the bench. He may well be needed before the end though. I'd expect Chile to give Brazil a good game, but the Brazilians have an excellent record against them in recent matches.
Mikstaw Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I hope that Stoch will play good match against Netherlands.
Andreas Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Afraid Slovakia won't stand a chance, 3-0 or 3-1 to Netherlands. Brazil and Chile however will be interesting, something like 2-1 or 3-2 to Brazil, Chile can win this I reckon with a bit of luck.
Mikstaw Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Slovakia have beaten Italy, so they have chance to win with Netherlands!
Valerie Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Holland will probably win this, but not with a big margin I'm afraid. All matches in the group stage were laboured affairs, no fluent play. And I fear that despite the talk of "not underestimating our opponent", quite a few players will have their eye on a possible match against Brazil this Friday.
loz Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Holland 1 -0 up. Robben outstanding yet again. If City are willing to pay £28m for Silva then Robben's price tag must be over £40m!
BigIzz Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Pretty drab first half, the Dutch seem content with a one goal lead. The Dutch and Brazil both seem to have given up their attacking, fluid ambitions for a more pragmatic and defensive approach. Let's see how it works. I must say, I haven't been particularly impressed with Hamsik this tournament, I don't get what all the fuss is about.
Andreas Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Robben doing his usual stuff, cutting inside and smashes it in to the net near first post.
BigIzz Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Robben doing his usual stuff, cutting inside and smashes it in to the net near first post. I'm sure it's easier said than done but you'd think Slovika would do everything to take that move away from him.
loz Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I'm sure it's easier said than done but you'd think Slovika would do everything to take that move away from him. Many better and more experienced players have tried and failed to do exactly that. best way to stop Robben is to boot hm early doors! As we saw at Chelsea that tends to make him think twice about trying.

As we saw at Chelsea that tends to make him think twice about trying. Well that's my point. Why not give him a hard foul when he's cutting in like that? Sure you'll give up a free kick in a very dangerous spot and maybe pickup a yellow but it might be better than the alternative. He almost scored again on the same move in the 50'.
Virosh Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Slovakia have missed a couple of one-on-ones in the second half through Vittek. If they lose this, they will have no one but themselves to blame. Also, that Stoch lad doesn't look too bad.
BigIzz Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 After watching Slovakia play four games, how the heck did Italy concede three goals to this team? Other than that match their attack has been nearly nonexistent.

Other than that match their attack has been nearly nonexistent. I was tempted to say they had three excellent chances to score, ASIDE from the penalty, but I just saw I've already written that today, in the post above your own Were you watching the same game?
Randy36 Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 The Dutch played their usual 4-2-3-1 formation with Van Bommel and de Jong the holding midfielders protecting the back four and controlling possession and tempo of the game. They have two world class players in Sneijder and Robben. The latter made his first start in the competition and opened the scoring. He deserved MOM. Looking forward to the game between Holland and Brazil on Friday. Brazil cannot afford to take the Dutch lightly. However, I expect Brazil to come out on top with a 2-1 victory.
Mikstaw Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Kaka had a great pass, when Fabiano scored second goal for Brazil!
Cam Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 It's kind of a let down to have Germany v Argentina in one QTR final, and Netherlands v Brazil in another...when another one has Uruguay and Ghana...not that they're bad teams...but they don't have the quality of the other teams.
Valerie Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 (edited) Netherlands v Brazil Had a lot of fun in the pub trying to convince my colleagues that Kuyt and Van Persie would not score, so "calm down everybody". Kuyt had one good cross in him, from which Sneijder scored, but apart from that it was the usual galloping around with no end result. Van Persie is painfully out of form after his long lay-off. Holland need to improve massively to stand a chance against Brazil. Edited June 29, 2010 by Valerie
Mikstaw Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 It will be very interesting match! Don't worry Val, you have very strong team!
ethicalstrategy Posted June 29, 2010 Author Posted June 29, 2010 So far Robben has appeared for the grand total of 90 minutes and yet has done more than most other star name players in the tournament. If he could just stay fit then he'd have a legitimate shot at being the best player in the world.

I certainly saw it. They had chances against the Dutch but couldn't finish. All their shots were pretty much right at the goalkeeper. Not to say the saves were easy but... I was talking more about the totality of their three games against New Zeland, Paraguay and Netherlands. Their attack was non existent for 95% of those matches.
