Chelsea consider deal for soon-to-be-out-of-contract Roma defender Philippe MexesBy Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 1:59 AM on 1st October 2010

Chelsea are monitoring contract talks between Roma and their centre back Philippe Mexes.

The France defender' date=' 28, is free to talk to foreign clubs from January 1 because his deal runs out next summer and a new one has yet to be agreed.

Mexes has captained France recently and is one of the candidates to keep the armband permanently under Laurent Blanc.

Having started just 17 games under Claudio Ranieri last season, the defender was the subject of several bids from leading Serie A clubs over the summer, including AC Milan. [/quote']

I doubt there's much to it...I saw it and decided not to post it.

However, would be a decent freebie....depending on wages of course.

I think it is not true... OK, he will be a free player since 1 January, but I think we don't need a next CB... There is a young Bruma in our squad, and don't forget about Mancienne... But, he enjoy playing for Wolves so who knows?? Maybe he's going to stay there?

Well if we need a backup for our defenders really badly and we don't want to pay much for one then Mexes could be a good deal. He's not bad, but he's not good either.
