I know it's been posted before, ... but always worth posting again I reckon? I like the guy on top of the box on the right with his casual pose, one hand in his pocket without a care in the world !!

Here’s the goals. And all three goals were well taken. His second, was a great right foot strike !

Does anyone remember when goal average was used when teams were on the same points? It helped us school kids to pay attention to division and decimals !vvv

A couple of easy examples given below, but try dividing say, 43 by 24 without a calculator!!

Goal Average

Definition: Goal average is calculated by dividing the total number of goals scored by the total number of goals conceded.
Usage: This method was used historically in English football until it was replaced in 1976. It was primarily applied to determine league standings when teams had equal points.
Example: If Team A scored 80 goals and conceded 40, their goal average would be 2.00 (80/40). If Team B scored 41 goals and conceded 20, their goal average would be 2.05 (41/20). In this case, Team B would rank higher.

I remember the goal average system. As you say, dividing 43 by 24 for example isn't easy without calculators. It would be interesting to see if there were differences in title winners and relegated teams since 1976 if the old system stayed in place.

Slightly off subject but I remember when the papers and possibly the tv companies didn't publish league tables until after about three games had been played. Possibly due to how close goal averages would have been? In 1981 England switched from 2 points to 3 points for a win. Again would league winners and relegated teams have been different in 2 points for a win had stayed in place.
