December 30, 200618 yr transfer window coming upwho do we want? who is available and would want to be at SB? who can we sell? SWP has been on his way out it seems but since Cole is gone for the rest of the season and Robben is injured (and keeps getting injured over and over again) I guess we need SWP at the moment.

December 31, 200618 yr We don't want to sell anyone in Jan - look how the sale of Billy and Huth has hurt us - if anything we need cover at CB and a decent RB.

December 31, 200618 yr I think the answer to 'are we shopping' is an emphatic 'yes' as I very much doubt Jose is prepared to go on for the rest of this season without an additional defender and probably an additional striker. I also think it is 'Yes' because I think Roman will ask Jose some pretty difficult questions at the end of the season if we fail to stop leaking goals, it cost us the title and Jose didn't bring anyone in when he had the chance. It would be great to see someone promoted form the youth team, say a Mancienne and a Sinclair however, like it or not, the reality is that that is not going to happen. As to who it will be well based on the signing of Boula (which nobody predicted) it is not easy to guess. As to who I would like it to be I have made no secret of the fact that for centre half my preference (in order) would be 1. Woodgate 2. Campbell and that is it, no third choice. If we are to bring in a centre half I want one with experience of the Premiership who would hit the ground running. As I see it these are the only two realistic options which would potentially be available (I cringe at the idea of Upson). As for a new striker well that is a more difficult call as I don't really think any of the current Premiership players are of the standard we would be looking for. That means we would be looking abroad and that probably means it is a case of looking for a striker with half an eye on next season as there would be no guaranteee that anyone we brought in would hit the ground running.
December 31, 200618 yr If you ask me we don?t have to sign a NEW defender. We should give one of Morais or Mancienne the chance to fight for that place. The same is for the winger/striker position. Joe will be injured for a long time, Robben seems to be a steady problem and Sweep doesn?t seem to use his chance but what about Sinclair or Ben Sahar, can they play winger ?
December 31, 200618 yr It is a fairly pressured situation to bring a kid into though. You like to be able to bring through youngsters gradually and in low pressure situations. To bring in a young centre half into a team whose defence in partiuclar is under scrutiny will be placing a lot of pressure on them. If they were to make a couple of costly errors (which most young defenders do) then it could have a massive blow on their confidence when they are blamed by the media and fans alike. As much as I wish our club would start to promote players from within I am not convinced that doing it whilst the club is in the spotlight for under performing is the best timing.
December 31, 200618 yr This article suggests to me that Woodgate may well be available http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 221077.stm OK he says he wants to see out his loan however it also suggests Madrid are prepared to sell. If we were to make an offer that Madrid accepted then they may well apply a little pressure on Woodgate to make the move to Boro permanent (based on Boro paying up) or accepting the move to us. Given that he has ambitions above Boro's capability you have to think he would take the move to us.
January 1, 200718 yr good old 'Arry http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hli ... o+lose+Sol No official word from Chelsea so little 'Arry decides to get the media circus going himself -

January 1, 200718 yr Woodgate would be an ideal signing, but One thing is worrying me, his injury record ! But him & JT together could be IMMENSE ! He will cost us though ! Real paid ?13,500,000 on 20 Aug 04. At the time he was still very injury prone. Now he seems fitter and stronger, & at 25 years old he has got plenty of years left in him. I think Roman should just off Real ?20m, a take it or leave it deal. That would be good value i think. He will be for sale, as he was only loaned out to boro so he would be in the EP shop window.

January 1, 200718 yr I think Roman should just off Real ?20m, a take it or leave it deal. I don't think he would cost anything like that. I would imagine he doesn't have a huge amount of time left on his contract at Real and I wouldn't say that half a season (in which he has picked up a couple of minor injuries) playing necessarily shows he is far stronger now. The injury history would still bring the price down. I would think about ?12m would secure him and for me that would be a steal.

Yeah, but then again it is 13M for a defender who has really proved himself in the premier league and has played for the NT. All that and he's just 18 years old. If he can continue to evolve as a player then 13M isn't that much.
January 1, 200718 yr The ?20m pricetag is good value as well imo. He has just limped off with a leg injury

January 1, 200718 yr No big deal. Probably just a slight strain which would take him, I don't know, a bit less than 3 years to recover from?
January 1, 200718 yr transfer window coming upwho do we want? who is available and would want to be at SB? who can we sell? Please can we buy a goalkeeper?
January 1, 200718 yr Please can we buy a goalkeeper? Why?, we allready have Cudicini and Cech........
January 2, 200718 yr We do, but aren't we playing our 3rd choice keeper at the moment (and for the next month or so)?
January 2, 200718 yr We do, but aren't we playing our 3rd choice keeper at the moment (and for the next month or so)? We are but who do you expect us to sign? Any keeper we sign knows full well that in a month or so they will be 3rd choice again and this massively reduces the quality of who would be available. All of you who mock Hilario I ask you to point to a third choice keeper at any club who is of signficantly better quality.
