Transfer windows - Good or Bad?

Featured Replies

I was just wondering what people thought of the transfer windows. Do you think they are better or should we go back to the old days and not have a set time.

Pros are clubs shouldnt really be rushed into buying so wouldnt spend as much, it would also give the selling club time to get the right replacement in. Also if your star goal keeper gets injured for the season you can go out and buy a new keeper. Now i think to make it work they should say that the squad cant be more than 25 players still so it would stop the big teams just going out and buying players each week because they would have to sell also.

Cons - the smaller teams with not much money might fall away more from the big clubs but then if they sell players to the bigger teams then they will get the money to reinvest and will have the time to get the right players in.

What are your thoughts on this?

My only problem with it is it should close before the first match of the season, being able to buy 3 or 4 matches in is a bit daft.

And on it goes in a cycle...

Not really, it gives you the change to finalise your team (be is buying or selling) and see how your team performs in competitive matches. Those matches are important to identifying any weaknesses in your squad. The matches when the window is still open are often vital and make a whole lot of difference to a team's season, Arsenal come to mind immediately, no way they would have finished Top 4 without it.

Whats weird is in the US our transfer market doesn't close until half way through the season. There's usually a few blockbusters in the NBA and MLB but rarely any in the NFL. So maybe keep it open till Jan 1 and then thats it till June

I was thinking more from a selling clubs point of view. How are the so called lesser clubs supposed to plan well with the fear that there is still 15 days or so where there players could be bought from under them. Players get there heads turned and may play 2 or 3 games looking for a move. I just dont think its very fair.

I love the transfer windows. Without them we would get all those idiotic rumours each and every day by the dozens.

Now if we could abolish the January window and keep it to the summer only, that would be fantastic.

Them selling their players should feature in their plan, they should have a good idea if a player of theirs wants to leave and should have already have replacements in mind.

You're right it's not fair when that happens but I don't think that on it's own should be enough to change it.
