Diarra eyes Blues stay

By Alex Livie - Created on 13 Feb 2007

Lassana Diarra has vowed to prove himself at Chelsea after making peace with manager Jose Mourinho.

The 21-year-old appeared to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge last month following a run-in with his coach.

He turned up late for the FA Cup win over Macclesfield, prompting Mourinho to hand the midfielder a severe dressing down.

Paris Saint Germain came in with a loan offer for Diarra in January, but Mourinho called a halt to the deal at the 11th hour and the pair have since made their peace.

"We had a long discussion and both made our point," Diarra told The Sun.

"He did not promise I would be first choice but said I would get a chance."

Diarra has been a regular starter in recent games and he is determined to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

He added: "Now I am starting in more matches and the team is also winning.

"I have a contract at Chelsea and am staying."

Hope this is true, I think he's gonna be better than Maka.

I think he's gonna be better than Maka.

That's some high praise! I think he's good and if he becomes even close to what Maka has been for us, I'm thrilled.

Great news, I've been impressed with him this season, and I think he will get more opportunities!

how dislexic am I, well at first glance I thought the title of this thread was "Diarra's Blue Eyes"...sad icon_redface.gif

Actually, Moos was thinking about that thread title. icon_wink.gif

I just think that he's got a little more in his locker than Makalele. He can shoot for a start. icon_wink.gif It'll be a while before he'll have Maka's vision but it will no doubt come with experience.

I think Diarra could be a very good player, but will fall short of Maka's overall class. That's no slight on Diarra because Makelele, in the holding role he plays, is IMO the greatest there's ever been. He still doesn't really get the credit he deserves from many people. He may be past his best now but his positioning, reading of the game, decision making and timing of interceptions are still superb. His first touch and keeping the ball under pressure are not to be sniffed at either.

Incidentally, though he's been wonderful for us, I feel he actually peaked during his years at Madrid. The 2002/03 CL quarter final against Man U was probably his greatest hour. He totally 110% dominated the central midfield. He made Roy Keane his bitch over both legs.

And the fact that Ream Madrid never recognized what kind of player they had in Makelele shows us why we will never be like them.

To let Makelele go (and we didn't have to pay much for him) is perhaps one of the worst decisions they've ever made.

But I'm grateful. Makelele has been my favourite player for a long long time now and when Chelsea signed him I was really happy. If Diarra can get even close to Makas skill then we're really lucky to have him.

At the moment I'd take Diarra over Mascherano any day.

Finally I have to say that I really like our midfield.

Makelele - Best defensive midfielder in the world!

Lampard - Best attacking midfielder in the world!

Essien - Best overall midfielder in the world?

Ballack - oh, sorry icon_redface.gif

Good Luch Diarra

I love Mido

I agree with this man. totally.

one thing about diarra, as good as he's looked, we've yet to see him actually have to do the defensive part of the defensive midfield postion- he's not yet faced deco, or worse deco and xavi, for example. in other words, so far we can only judge his peformances on what he has done with posession. the real tests are still to come.

The boy has talent, no doubt.

And if Jose is sorting his attitude then he could be a real star. If he does not sort his attitude out them him, Mikel and Glen J will all piss their great potential away! 1064.gif
