TV rights

Featured Replies

I see the EPL TV rights have now been sold for a combined £5.136bn between SKY and BT.

The current deal was worth £3bn so this is a huge increase.

Bearing in mind the rights are distributed thus:

50% divided equally between the clubs.

25% awarded to clubs based on their final league position.

25% distributed to clubs as "facilities fee" for televised matches.

...it means quite a significant increase in revenue for the Premier League teams. Puts everyone on a very sound footing in regards to FFP going forward and I expect we will see some mega transfer fees going forward.

Excellent news, although as the rights are shared pretty equally I doubt we'll see everyone in the top 4 suddenly spending like Real Madrid.

What I really hope is that this money is spent well, not on the latest flashy one season wonder from Spain, but on true talent scouted properly, youth infrastructure, the best coaching talent.

With this money we could really dominate on the pitch as well as just off it, but we said that about the last deal...

Wow. Definitely good for us complying with FFP but with Sky paying 70% and BT paying 30% more than last time, I dread to think what a Sky or Virgin subscription is going to cost to be able to watch it all.

Insane figures. Surely gives the clubs no excuses with ticket prices now.

Whilst people pay, there will be no change (at least downwards anyway).

I heard that certain teams in the bottom half of the league are now richer than Ajax, if true that is f**king insane considering Ajax are a CL team. This can only be a great thing for the teams lower in the league, though.

I read that too. Burnley are wealthier than Ajax now and I actually find that quite sad.

Apparently Scudamore was visibly quite uncomfortable when asked about the effects on the Football League and the even greater gap it will create. I guess it's not his problem but the teams coming up could struggle even more in the coming years and they're not doing to well now.

Considering that Ajax is by far the richest club in The Netherlands, financially they are led perfectly, it's really insane indeed. Don't know if this is going to turn out in a good thing.

Brilliant news, I'm absolutely certain ticket prices will now be halved......oh look, some flying bacon.

If Ajax and the Eredivisie lost out on the free market to superior competitors then serves them right.

FYI, Chelsea regularly reduce prices for FA Cup, League Cup and CL group games.

Cool story. f**k all to do with what I posted though.

I think we all know that, the league is completely different, that is what they're bidding for.

You were bemoaning the price of tickets but the club does regularly reduce prices so fans from all backgrounds can get in. Just thought it might help.

Ticket prices will come down when people stop buying them.

As it is the club have frozen ticket prices for four years running so that's a real terms drop in price.

Ticket prices will never go down as long as there is supply shorter than demand.

The good news is that, morally and economically, it makes it harder to justify a price increase.

Where did I say our ticket prices? I meant ticket prices in England in general are disgusting and will not drop. Plus, those ticket prices drop because of a lack of demand.

Being that you're on a Chelsea forum I assumed you would be talking about Chelsea tickets. My mistake.
