12 year domination.

Featured Replies

That includes community shields, which I consider to be nothing more than a pre season friendly.

Take those out and we are top of the pile.

I was just thinking that, does anyone know the figure of how many of United's trophies at the community shield? It looks pretty high to me.

Also as a footnote, look at Tottenham haha!

Since Roman took over here, United have won 6 shields, we've won 2.

Yeah I agree were top, but I meant were close to domination.

If we can win the title next year, our domination over our domestic rivals will be under way.

I'm talking dominating like

Liver pool 70/80s

Manyoo 90/00's

CHELSEA 10/20

Domination is a long way off. This is a nice foundation, but what I think we'd all like to see is Jose sticking around for a long time, keeping that spine of the team (Courtois, Azpi, Zouma, Matic, Hazard, Costa) but developing young talent to compliment them.

Our academy truly does dominate football at their level and that is the next step for us - integrating homegrown lads into the team so you have a conveyor belt of young talent taking you to the next level. That's what we didn't do in 2005/07.

I think if we are talking about a period dominance for us, I agree it has to be from this point onwards, it starts now, not winning the league for the last 5 years makes everything a bit null and void before now I guess.

Liverpool won 8/12 titles 1977 to 1989, and United won 8/10 from 1993 to 2003.

I don't actually think a team will dominate again like United and Liverpool did in those eras. Too many teams with sufficient financial resources for the titles not to be shared around. United, City, Chelsea and even Arsenal recently are prepared to spend big, when United dominated it was no coincidence that it was only big spending Blackburn to muscle in and nick a league title, then Arsenal and Chelsea caught up with them financially and their dominance ended.

This is not to say we can't retain our title next year, I think we can, but to win 8 of the next 10 would be asking a lot.

In fairness, as some one who was all for integrating at least a few members of that group, what have they gone on to achieve? Mirslav stoch as an example of an exciting player can't get in to the fenabace team. Scott sinclare is good but not top level good (despite my protest that the time)

Our academy wasn't as good then and it's more a case of what we couldn't do then rather than didn't.

This time we have the players there to do it - no f**king around signing Steve Sdiwells or Andriy Ahevchenkos. Buy top talent who haven't peaked and bring through youngsters to fill the gaps whilst also getting value in the transfer market by buying young players who will only appreciate in value.

Ultimately we're a better run club now.

Am I right in thinking that United have won 5 league titles since roman came in, we have just won are 4th and city have 2 and arsenal the last one.

In terms of FA cups I think we have 4 in that period to Uniteds one and we have 3 league cups? To Uniteds one. Never have we won just a league cup in that time either.

And the one CL each

12 trophies since 2003, including the league and champions league.. f**k me we really do take this stuff for granted some times.. Amazing

Yeah if your veteran supporter it is amazing, half of my Chelsea supporting life has been trophy-less, the other half as seen us collecting silverware like pirates.

Are they counting the League Cup as a major trophy?

Obviously the Community Shield is basically worthless, but it cheapens the major/minor trophy divide somewhat if they're lumping the League Cup in with the Premier League and Champions League (and FA Cup) as major trophies. Probably worth noting that I very much enjoy the League Cup and love winning it, but clearly it doesn't compare to the big two (and the FA Cup).

What an achievement and a turnaround though, it still feels a bit surreal considering the expectations I grew up with, and even then we were still pretty good compared to the previous decade!

By the way I  forgot the Europa cup, probably because it's rafa and probably because I miss the classic European forman of European cup, Uefa and cup winners cup.

I count the league cup and major trophy, for me a major trophy is one where more then a handfull of teams are involved. But I will admit that won on there own the season would have felt a bit empty. Fact is every time we have won one under Jose we got the league of FA cup with it

Does Community Shield really count as a trophy?

I think it does, while you don't go through rounds to get to "the final" you do have to earn the right to play in it by winning the league or finishing second/winning the FA cup.

It's kind of like the Super Cup it's a bonus for winning the Champions League/Europa League. I'd obviously rank the Super Cup above the Shield but I think it's a valid trophy.

For me the only trophies that aren't what I would consider valid are the pre season ones like Emirates Cup etc although were we in that I'd still want us to win it, I just probably wouldn't lose sleep if we lost in it.
