I think we have a right to be concerned and I think some of us are worried that we haven't strengthened. To also add to that people are also worried because we did this before in 2010-11 we didn't strengthen and once we hit November that season fell apart. Sometimes the players need a big signing to come in as it can keep them on their toes and give them a boost. I just hope that if we need to we use Jan to strengthen and that the stadium plans aren't going to pull to much money away from transfers cause without money you can't compete anymore.

Another thing I'd like to say on the flip side is a slow start could benefit us in the long run as it used to with United in the 90s. Take their treble winning season they started that season so poor yet finished with three major trophies. Now I know the season hasn't officially begun but it's proven in the past pre season doesn't mean a thing in the long run and that slow starts don't always ruin a title challenge.

None of United signings look that impressive to be honest. De gea is off, di Maria is gone, Rooney is their only striker and their defense is a mess. Arsenal have actually signed less players than we have and city only got sterling. Not sure why everyone is moaning tbh.

I think it's the fact that all those teams look better suited to cope with an injury (apart from Rooney for United) to one of their best players. We don't look in good shape without Costa as it is

Where has this faith in Remy gone all of a sudden ? are people really worried about him because he had one bad game in the Community Shield ? Give the guy a chance, the season hasn't even started yet.

He looks really out of sync with the team at the moment.

His positioning and movement is really off, it's just a bit concerning to be going into the new season and if Costa isn't fit you've got what looks like to back up strikers that are out of form.

Could easily all click into place come the weekend but obviously you can only make a judgement on what you've seen and Remy looks a few weeks away from being up to match sharpness to me.

I'm not sure about that. Depay is an excellent young forward, Schneiderlin fills a gap in their midfield which they haven't really filled since the last time Carrick was capable of playing more than 30 games (which incidentally, was the last time they managed to win the league). I personally rate Darmian (although admittedly largely based on his international performances) who fills the hole at right-back, and Schweinsteiger at his best is a world-class midfielder. I still doubt that it will be enough to win the title (bearing in mind their centre back options still leave a lot to be desired, as well as the lack of depth up front) but they have undoubtedly improved.

I get where you're coming from though. I would argue that it's easy to overreact to pre-season fixtures, which while not the most meaningful football we'll play, is currently the only football we're playing so it's really all we've got to go on. The lack of transfer activity is only going to add to people's worries.

Pre season is for one of strengthening your team, build up stamina etc so pre-season results don't mean an awful lot...but do they? Having a moment to pause and think about the pre-season and with only a few hours to go before kick off I have to admit that we don't look ready; certainly for the first few games at least. We seem somewhat disjointed as a team and in our play, not scoring goals, even though chances at least are being created(positive)...Costa's continuing mental worry of his hamstring, Remy and Falcao not off to a good pre season; can't score against Fiorentina, off field distractions of attempting to buy Stones, Jose' publicly stating we need a Left Back and now it seems a 2nd rate LB in Danny Rose (panic buy?) being seriously on the radar, especially with his unexpected absence from the Spurs line up today....not sure why we don't have a decent young LB within the Academy as its not like he would be playing every week.  Just seems to me we don't seem as calm going into the season as we did last year..Anyway hopefully the last few days before the kick off things have calmed down and fallen into place.
