December 29, 201510 yr Heard the sad news this morning that legendary wart-bearing, bass-wielding hedonist Lemmy has died of cancer. This was apparently posted on the Motörhead Facebook page this morning: There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family. We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words. We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.Have a drink or few. Share stories. Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself. HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT. Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister 1945 -2015 Born to lose, lived to win. Please feel free to post your condolences, well wishes and memories on our official tribute page: https://www.facebook.com/lemmykilmisterforlife Horrible news, he seemed like the unstoppable force in terms of living large, he took it to absurd levels. Judging by the documentary film (which I highly recommend if you're a fan) there may not have been a man alive who took consumption of sex, alcohol, and speed to such extremes. Also a mention for the summer during which it was far too hot, but Lemmy didn't want to stop playing on his favourite fruit machine at the pub... so started wearing hot pants: This man apparently had sex with thousands of women. What are you doing with your life? I was lucky enough to see Motörhead about ten years ago and they played one of the best and most energetic shows I've ever seen. Cheers for the music and the memories Lemmy. R.I.P. Obligatory:
December 29, 201510 yr As I 'quoted' in the music thread: Also a big thumbs up for the best album Lemmy was involved in making, those bass lines are a highlight of this recording, especially in Orgone Accumulator or Brainstorm. Lemmy at his best. Edited December 29, 201510 yr by undertow
December 29, 201510 yr A fantastic artist and I've always loved Motorhead so this is a huge loss for the industry. Condolences to his family and friends.
December 29, 201510 yr Huge loss to music and to metal! The guy kept going even when he was old. He was insane. RIP Lemmy. Keep blasting those ears in heaven m/
December 29, 201510 yr A buddy of mine was in a band called The Warriors. They had Lemmy do a single verse on one of their songs. The story is that he came in, drank some whisky, changed the lyrics in his verse a little, went in and recorded it in one take, came out, ate some skittles and left. Rock Legend Can't believe it all happened so fast.
December 30, 201510 yr A pal of mine sent me this not sure if R.I.P. is appropriate ha ha true legend. Lemmy killed by death Motörhead frontman Lemmy has been killed by death, it has been announced. This has come as a surprise to many as it was assumed The Grim Reaper was more likely to take up a role in the ever-changing lineup of the band, possibly playing drums. Death is not expected to slow the legendary musician down, and he has immediately announced an extensive tour covering Dis, Mictlan, Hades, Gehenna and an open air gig at the Styx arena. It is also reported that mere death will not slow Motorhead’s prodigious rate of album releases. “Look, I’m sorry about this but in my defense he had been on my list since 1975,” a visibly upset Death told us. “I’ve actually been trying to collect him for forty years, and nothing stuck. You’ve got to respect that. “You shouldn’t be too sad though; Lemmy did say that he didn’t want to live forever,” he added. “It’s in the f**king song.” When asked, Phil ‘Philthy Animal’ Taylor, who died in November, confirmed they were looking to get the band back together. Shares in Jack Daniels have fallen 47% in early trading on the news.
January 8, 201610 yr This is a weird one, especially for those of you who have never seen the original milk ad. They did a remake of a classic Finnish ad when Motörhead were in Finland a month ago, but didn't release it until now.
