Posted April 20, 20168 yr A few people hinted at this in the other thread but now the Chelsea Fans Channel are doing the same.
April 20, 20168 yr Interesting. JT more than anyone for everything he's done deserves it and he was so unlucky last season Hazard had a world class season because he was every bit as impressive for us at the back as Hazard was in attack. I suppose you would then feel a bit of sympathy on say Willian who stood out more than anyone when we were awful and possibly latterly Costa ( I wouldn't personally as he turned up at season start fat, unfit and uninterested). If it were to show the board we want JT next season then I'm all for it because he's not done yet and Conte will need a character like that to show him what this club is all about. April 20, 20168 yr I don't like this sort of sentimentality, he's won two (I think) fans player of the year awards and deservedly so. if you don't think john terry has been our best player this season, you shouldn't vote for him IMO. I thought the giggs player of the year award as some sort of euphemistic recognition of his career was pathetic, for example.
April 20, 20168 yr Author If it were to show the board we want JT next season then I'm all for it because he's not done yet and Conte will need a character like that to show him what this club is all about. For me this is the main reason to do it. We don't have many ways to tell the club exactly how we feel so this might be a wake-up call to them of sorts. Willian has had a decent season, although it's quite surprising how many of his goals or assists came against weaker opposition. That's more an observation than a knock. Him not winning it isn't a great disservice, especially when Costa's form in the second-half of the season might've saved us from relegation. JT deserves some type of acknowledgement and when it isn't coming from the club it needs to come from the fans.
April 28, 20168 yr It should go to Willian, not JT. As much as I love JT for his career he only has one season max left in him and we need to move on if Conte feels he doesn't need him. Voting for JT when Willian has clearly been our best player is pathetic and would make a mockery of what the award stands for. Edited April 28, 20168 yr by KonaKai Blue

April 28, 20168 yr Author He's been acknowledged every game for years by the fans..... C A P T A I N L E A D E R L E G E N D I get your point, but I personally don't think we can do enough to acknowledge the greatest player in our history (in my opinion of course). I know I'm sentimental and this isn't based on performance, and that there is also a great argument that Willian deserves recognition for a decent season but I love the man. I'd be proud to see him get it.

Sorry, I have to side with G3 - I'm as sentimental as anyone but there's a limit, and unless you genuinely think he was the best player then it's not fair on anyone to vote for him. I'm more worried that he was underrated during his titanic prime for us by opposition fans, especially in regards to his ball-playing ability.

I'm more worried that he was underrated during his titanic prime for us by opposition fans, especially in regards to his ball-playing ability. That's fair enough. I get that some wouldn't want to devalue the Player of the Year award and that Willian deserves recognition for his decent performance this year. I think this is borne out of frustration at the club treating our legends poorly and the frustration at the overall poor performance of the players this season. I'm not going to tell people they have to feel that way, just that there is a campaign ongoing. As for the award itself, I get why Willian will probably get it because he works hard and added a couple more goals to his game but personally I think Diego Costa's form after Christmas got us out of a relegation fight.
April 28, 20168 yr Author Willian is POTY He would appear to be the favourite despite some people saying that for all his running his contribution in the league was actually just 5 goals and 5 assists which is almost as good as what James Milner managed (half the assists though), and that a 'protest/celebration vote' for JT is right at this time. I can see both points of view but honestly, I don't really feel that this is such a great season that Willian's contribution would be missed from the annals of history. But it's a personal choice.
April 28, 20168 yr Do we really treat our legends badly though? Greatness doesn't last forever. Drogba left on a high, so wasn't treated badly. Lampard out of due respect was over the hill and Jose allowed him to leave for an American adventure (like Gerrard) Cech wanted to leave as he was no longer first choice (the board respected his decision) JT is on his last legs and announced (not the board) that he is leaving the club. It's not set in stone that he is leaving, those developments I assume will be decided by himself and Conte. So I repeat I don't get where this Chelsea treating legends come from other than the anti Chelsea media, whilst some of us are bitterly lapping these criticisms up. When Pool or Utd let legends go nothing bad is said but it's a different story for Chelsea.

When Pool or Utd let legends go nothing bad is said but it's a different story for Chelsea. Drogba absolutely got a great send-off. What about Lamps though? Did we get a chance to say goodbye to him or did we have to wait until he played for City to do that? What about Ashley? Neither of these players got the send-off they deserved unfortunately so I think that's where the antipathy stems from. I'm sure it's just the media having a pop, but look at the send-off Gerrard got. Now I'm sure some will write-that off as overly-sentimental because 'scousers gonna scouse' but Scholes got the chance to say goodbye with some measure of fanfare as did Ryan Giggs when he retired from playing and I think Gary Neville got a testimonial. Now I understand that not everyone goes in for this type of thing and thinks these players are just employees who got well paid. I don't believe that though. I think there's a special bond between certain players and the supporters and that the crowd deserves a chance to say thank you one last time. The one redeeming thing about us not renewing our captain's contract is at least we get to give him a proper send-off. Edited April 28, 20168 yr by ShedEnder91
April 28, 20168 yr Lamps and Ash didn't get the send offs that their services deserved correct but in my opinion it was just an unfortunate situation coupled with our late title collapse. Lamps holds no bitterness towards the club so neither should we. I presume he will have a testimonial in due course.
