Wembley Stadium a week apart in the late spring of 1978.

The FA Cup Final took place on 6th May 1978 100,000  attendance.

The FA Trophy Final took place the Saturday before on 29th April 1978 with a 20,000 attendance

Taken in the 1960s when covers were added to parts of the terracing. There is a great thread on Follow Follow about old pictures of Ibrox and Rangers players and teams.

Jock Wallace Rangers manager and former Rangers player Jock 'Tiger' Shaw.

Jock 'Tiger' Shaw was the Rangers Ron 'Chopper' Harris of his day !

Hampden Park,Scotland v England, 27 May 1972 Attendance: 119,325

Some midweek Home International match. It ended 1-1.

Derek Johnstone (who  joined us for a year or so in the early 1980s) headed a great goal to put Scotland ahead

Gordon McQueen slid into a goalpost hurt ligaments that would rule him out of Argentina 78 just a few weeks later.

Scotland would badly, badly, miss McQueens defending capabilities in Argentina,

Wales were awarded a penalty late on, Brian Flynn missed it.

Then in the last seconds, Jim Blyth threw the ball out to  Willie Donnachie the Scotland left back.

With no Welsh player anywhere near him.  Donnachie without looking.  knocked the ball back to Jim Blyth.

Trouble was, Blyth had moved out  'of a saves reach of the ball' !

So Donnachie scored one of the craziest OGs of all time for Wales to equalise.

Apart from that, a quiet match.

Sunderland 1-0 Leeds in 1973 FA Cup Final.   What a great save by Jim Montgomery.

Sunderland v Leeds was the first Cup Final I watched on a colour television. I was invited to a neighbour's house to watch it. It was a few years before my parents bought a colour television.

My parents got our first colour tv for the 1974 World Cup. Like many other Scottish families I'd imagine back in 1974.

When I say 'got' I mean they rented it from Visionhire.

It’s the first Cup Final I remember.

After Cup Finals all the local kids used to go down the park for a twenty aside game. By far the busiest afternoon/ evening down the rec of the year.

Ps I used to think it was called the wreck because it was such a sh*t park, not realising it was short for recreation ground. ( I’m sure it was the same everywhere- when the council cut the grass word spread like wildfire- it used to get that long they needed a combine harvester to chop it down)

Funny you say about the Rec / Wreck we used to say that too about a local park and I had never thought about the proper names.

I also remember going over the park from about 7yrs onwards after the FA Cup final for a kick about too.
