Jim Baxter. Would love to have seen him play. One of the best players to have played for Rangers and Scotland.

My old man used to 'wax lyrical' about Jim Baxter.

Baxter he said, used to "weave spells with his magical left foot".

Part of the great Rangers team of the early to mid-sixties. Only made 34 appearances for Scotland. Shocking but I guess back then there were fewer international matches. He played in the Scotland victories over England at Wembley in 1963 and 1967. In the latter he played keepie-uppie towards the end of the match. Also played in the England v Rest of the World game in 1963 to mark the centenary of the formation of the FA. I read an interview with John Greig years ago and in it he said that Baxter was never the same player after returning to Ibrox after playing in England and retired shortly afterwards.

Found this picture. I think it's from your neck of the woods. Morton's ground.

Yeah cheers mate. It's Cappielow Park home of Greenock Morton. Looks like the 1960s and Cappielow actually hasn't changed that much, since that picture was taken, honestly !

I remember my old man saying that Baxter was never the same player after he broke his leg in late 1964.

This was when he was playing for Rangers in Vienna in a European Cup match.

He was never the greatest trainer and found it hard to regain his fitness.
