April 5, 20251 yr Denis Law's famous back heeled goal finish gave Man City a 1-0 win over Man Utd on the last Saturday of 1973-74.Heading into the clash, United would only have survived if they had beaten City and also seen their relegation rivals Birmingham and West Ham drop points. They would then also have to win their subsequent rearranged game against Stoke, which fell after the Manchester derby. And, despite their defeat to City, Birmingham beat Norwich and West Ham got a point against Liverpool, meaning that even if Law hadn't scored the goal, the Red Devils would still have been relegated.Tommy Docherty's side went onto lose 1-0 at Stoke in their final game of the season anyway, meaning Law simply confirmed their fate, rather than being responsible for it

April 10, 20251 yr Cathkin Park, just literally ‘up the hill’ from Hampden. In fact it was the Second Hampden Park until 1903!
April 10, 20251 yr Cathkin Park has not seen top class football, since Third Lanark went out of existence in 1967. It is a great venue and fortunately was saved to be a football park. It is said, that on a quiet night, you can hear the roar of the crowd from the days of yore!‘Cathkin Park was sold for development in 1967. However, Glasgow City Council refused planning permission for housing. This was (very fortunately) because of an old local authority caveat that stated that ‘the ground must be used for recreational purposes.’It is now a public park where football is still played.
