It became ‘The McCain Stadium’ until Scarborough F.C. were dissolved in June 2007.

The site is now a Lidl Superstore.

Happily,Scarborough were rebounded as Scarborough Athletic F.C. Society Ltd and are a supporter owned club currently playing in the North East League.

The type of surface we played on from mid 1970s - mid 1980s! No sliding tables or fancy coloured boots on those pitches…😀😀😢

Western Park, former home of Renfrew Juniors. My local Scottish Non League Side.

Renfrew played at Western Park from their formation in 1912 until 2014. The club moved to their new ground in 2015.

They moved literally 200 metres or so west to ‘New Western Park’ (not much thought went into that name!) 😀

‘The Bonnie Prince’,Charlie Cooke, played briefly as a teenager for Renfrew Juniors, before signing for Aberdeen.

A rare picture of one of the grass pitches in my old home town I played on as a youngster.

Rare, because it’s not pouring with rain and the pitch isn’t a sea of mud or almost waterlogged.

And, yes, of course we played on it in all three conditions!

I can remember the excitement in the build up to this game, despite it being played 52 years ago!

There must have been an enormous number of new coloured televisions in the West of Scotland,being rented for this game.

My parents got ours two weeks before the game. My grandparents got theirs just in time for the Scotland v England game the previous month!

The player on the left, Martin Doak, was the grandfather of current Scotland player Ben Gannon Doak.

Sadly Martin died in 2024, aged just 60.

We played football when we were youngsters, as he on the same street as me back in the 1970s

Port Glasgow Juniors ‘Woodhall Ground’. They moved here in 2012. Their former home was just half a mile away. It was redeveloped to become an Industrial Unit.

The original home of Port Glasgow Juniors was this ground in the old Clune Park area of the town. This is taken in the early 1900s.

The two buildings in the background are middle my old Primary School and to the right. The building where my grandmother was born.

Clune Park Primary was sadly demolished in 2025 whilst the building my grandmother was born in was demolished in I think 1916!

A bit different in climate from the Cape Verde National Stadium!😀😀😀😀
