    • No it wouldn't be a failure - 2 cups is a good return in anyone's language

    • Yes it would be a failure - we're a 'big' team now, and the bar has been raised much higher than 2nd string domestic cup competitions

If we won the FA Cup & the League Cup this season (but were knocked out of the CL and only came 2nd in the league) would you consider the season a failure?

I note dit wouldn't be a failure.

Taking German lessons Loz

Failure is non-longer in the Chelsea vocabulary - we've won the CC so we haven't failed

Starting on German, then plan to master Swedish and Japanese. I figure if I can translate the phrase 'Thank you for choosing the new BMW, feel its internal throb' into those three languages I can make a mint out of marketing brochures by signing up with 'Tim W Inc'

I never thought I would say this but I'm not sure if two trophies would be enough icon_eek.gif

If one of them is the Champions League trophy then it would be more than enough, but just getting the Carling Cup and the FA Cup? At the moment it doesn't feel like it's enough. But if we do just get those then I would perhaps look back and say "we did alright".

And I guess it depends a bit on how we do in the other two then. If we lose the final of the CL, end up perhaps just a point behind ManU while getting the two trophies then it would perhaps be enough to satisfy me icon_wink.gif

But really, two trophies should be more than enough even if they are "only" the CC and the FA-cup.

I am too spoiled icon_rolleyes.gif

Due to injuries, rumors, bad press etc... that you have suffered this season to still be in the title race, champions league and fa cup and having won the league cup is nothing short of a miracle. And JM deserves all the credit he can get for obviously keeping team spirit up when the odds have been stacked against you. I honestly think that this season is already a massive success for you. Whether or not you win the remaining trophy's remains to be seen, but you are still in them and that is what matters.

Personally I am hoping that you get knocked out of the fa cup next Sunday  (can't see it happening though) but will be cheering you on in the title race and champions league.

It would not eb a failure, it would merely leave us yearning for more next season. A thing thos of us in the pre roman era are used to

if we only come second this season and do nothing better than win the league cup it will be seen by the press as a massive failure and having lost Cech and JT will be quickly forgotten by them.

The trouble is the press would know that it hasn't been a failure, but would put either plain lie or put such a spin on the articles that it would be perceived and believed by the retarded British general public.

The thing is this happens in every article from the gutter press and often in the not so gutter press, which i suppose makes this post totally pointless icon_rolleyes.gif

To date.

1 cup winners

2 second in league (could be Champions again, can not see us losing second spot)

3 semi finalist FA cup (could do the double, (league & cup,) my fervent wish it happens)

4 semi finalist in CL. ( v liverfool who we owe big time, could be a quadruple CHAMPIONS team)

If that is a sign of failure in a season, bring it on.

or to put it another way just ask a W. Gallas if we have failed this season.

Is finishing second really so bad?

I consider finishing second and winning a cup much better than finishing 4th or 5th and winning a cup even if at the end of it you have no more silverware to show for it.

That is a really difficult question.

We already have one cup, we are looking good to get at least one more, and are definately still in the hunt for the league.

In the post-Roman era, the Carling Cup, and probably the FA Cup is not enough though. I think that Roman would definately consider the season a failure if we didn't pick up either the Premiership or the Champion's League.

However, when you look at our achievements in the context of the history of the club - this is going to be one of our most successfull seasons regardless of what happens between now and the end of May. I'm not sure you can call that a "failure"

In terms of our squad strenght and style of play - I think this season we have regressed. I think if we had kept the exact same squad we had last season, we would be in an even better position than we are now. I really don't think that Sheva and Ballack have offered us anything more than Guddy and Crespo did last season. And I think that Boula and Kalou are not in the same class as Gallas and Duff.

I think if we had kept the same squad and style of play, the improvement in form of Drogba and Essien along with the emergence of Diarra and Mikel would have seen us about 10 points clear in the league at the moment.

I voted for "failure" because of this reason. I don't think we can realistically expect to always win "more" trophies than the season before, but I think our squad should always progress from the season before - and that hasn't happened.
