August 30, 20187 yr I'm disappointed but not surprised to see all the blame-storming and scape-goating of Luiz for the barcodes goal. The whole defence stopped expecting a perfectly reasonable free kick, and probably a red card, only for it all to carry on. I'm more concerned at the goal keeper getting beaten on his near post like that from a header no more than 2 or 3 yards off the dead-ball line and well outside the post. Really, some of us need to get a grip and not just knee-jerk a handy, standard Luiz is a clown post every time something happens down our left. Where was Alonso? Why was Giroud defending at left back? What happened to the linesman's guide dog? As I recall it, the scorer ran from the far post around Luiz, who was looking towards the action. Who was marking him and didn't follow? From the lack of Afro wobbling, Luiz didn't get a shout from Rudiger, Dave or Kepa. But, ultimately, where was the free-kick and red-card? Any hand/arm contact above the neck line is supposed to be an automatic red card, regardless of supposed intent or otherwise. Now, I don't have a huge deal of confidence in Luiz in a four, and not a great deal in a 3 at the back, but, come on, abuse where it's warranted, not just because someone has to take the blame for everything, and Luiz is a good candidate a lot of the time.
