August 26, 20187 yr Why has Sarri not realised that Luiz is a liability yet? He thinks he can play in a back four. He’s wrong.

That was a group failing. Iam sure Sarris gonna show that to them over and over again....
August 26, 20187 yr Good win, great atmosphere, Hazard & Alonso immense.. Tough game with them parking the bus throughout the 90mins but we got there in the end, Onto the next one, UTC.
August 26, 20187 yr Haven’t seen the match yet but listened to some of it on radio. In the after match chat Chris Sutton, of all people, was really berating the referee for not sending off the elbower in the lead up to their goal. Reckoned the pen was not a pen though.

He plays because he is very good at playing passes through midfield to the attackers, and picking out passes over the top. He switched off for the goal definately, but he hasn't been too bad so far, and if we dominate the ball like we did today, he will have very little defensive work to do, and his ability on the ball is a big asset. Mascherano got away with playing centre back for barca for years, because he didn't have to defend. I think Luiz will be exposed against city, Liverpool, and possibly spurs, but he should be okay against the rest.

August 26, 20187 yr Man, I didn't realize this stat until now WTF is going on here - Chelsea were the road team
August 26, 20187 yr Exactly what we needed there, 3 points! M.Alonso has been very important to our attack so far in these first games, I guess it's one of those things that even if positive you just can't be 100% happy because other teams might focus a little bit extra to shut down that left side of his in the future games...He has won multiple penalties and scored already, this last one was his as well in my eyes even if it is an own goal.
August 26, 20187 yr Btw, the tiki-taka teams have always been favored by the refs with penalties and red cards and if you think about it, you'll see it makes perfect sense. We possess the ball in 3/4 of the match - you can't stop that possession with clear defensive tackles and bodies on the ball - you gotta commit fouls and even if the ref let them kick the sh*t out of our stars, sooner or later he gets tired and gives a penalty or a card. today was the perfect example of that. We've seen it in Barcelona, Bayern, City, now it's our turn. And to be honest, I'm enjoying. Yes, we might have seen clueless at moments but I'd take that kind of football against that kind of opponent all day ahead of some sh*tty, pragmatic contrived scheme for 0-1, waiting for the ref to give us a penalty or a corner like Jose or Antonio would have wanted us to play.

August 26, 20187 yr Was that ref new to the prem this season? Don’t think I’ve ever seen him before and his control of the match was sh*te for the vast majority of the time.

He was poor, he let them kick Hazard all over the place, didn’t book one of their players until around the 70th minute and managed to miss Azpi being completely wiped out, still at least he gave us a pen.

I totally forgot about that play - even that numptie commentator said it was a clear foul & Chelsea were hard done by - the rest of the match that fool kept on praising the courage of the barcodes - seems most English commentators love to hate on Chelsea - oh well - onward & upwards

August 26, 20187 yr Admittedly I've only read the most recent page of this thread, and I've also had a few, but I respect the lot of you for not shouting 'justice', and on top of that not rubbing it into that cheating ex-Tottenham piece of sh*te's face for what happened this evening. On an, I'm sure, entirely unrelated note, the Serbo-Croat translation for 'fat Spanish c**t' is pronounced 'DEH-buh-luh SPAN-ska PEECH-kah'... or so I'm told. Not sure how that came up. Make no mistake Rafa's approach today is a HUGE compliment to the job Sarri is doing, you don't play those type of tactics unless you are absolutely sh*tting yourself. August 26, 20187 yr Oh man, just home and I'm pretty sh*tfaced right now, so i might struggle to write a coherent post. Really happy with the start we've made under our new manager, can't ask much more than that. Hazard was absolutely f**king superb, ripped that Newcastle defence to shreds, absolute world class. Really impressed with Jorginjo since he's come in, hasn't put a foot wrong since he's come in. Kante was brilliant as always. him and Jorginho compliment each other very well, look forward to seeing how this midfield of them along with Kovacic developes. Rudiger keeps getting better and better, arguably the best defender in the premier league, i'd rather see christensen start over Luiz though. I thought Morata had another poor game, he did well last week i thought but he needs to deliver consistently. Overall can't complain too much 9 points from 9 and heading in the right direction. COME ON CHELSEA!!!!!!!!!
August 26, 20187 yr Sigh..so match of the day had segment on capoue's challenge on Zaha and how bad it was...yet nothing said about treatment hazard got all game at Newcastle and also dismissed elbow Giroud received...even laughed that Giroud looked up from his position on the floor after Newcastle scored as if it was a sign he'd been feigning injury somehow...same blinkered sh*t against us every year from this show

Though the penalty was 50/50 (maybe), I felt it was a penalty as after the defender nudged the ball, Alonso could have easily played the ball, but the defender took him down. Mark Clattenburg commented on the post game he supported the ref's decision. I concur. Plus, if it had been a Liverpool player instead of Alonso, they would have sent the Newcastle player off with a red. Liverpool gets such soft penalties. They must lead the league over the past 3 - 4 years with penalties won. Come on you Chelsea!!

He was so biased through the whole game. Even at half time when Souness and Rednap were going on about how negative Newcastle were, he began by saying he disagreed with everything they said. He was a right twa@.

Sadly I heard that prick too and moaned about him earlier in the thread...I don't expect chelsea tv coverage but a bit of balance is surely fair enough? Barely heard a good word said about us this season and that's after winning three out of three...just imagine if we'd started like West Ham?!
August 27, 20187 yr This was a very boring game with very sterile possession from Chelsea. Reminded me of watching Spain v Russia at World Cup. Kovacic, Jorginho and Kante is like playing 3 makeleles at once. None of them want to go into the opposition pen area. None of them shoot from outside etc. for this sort of game I’d prefer Berkeley as a starter. Ialso Morata is useless in these games. We needed power today, not speed or tricks but brute force. Girould would have been more effective in this game. Edited August 27, 20187 yr by ozboy
August 27, 20187 yr Glad we won , as always. We had so much possession it was unreal. Our penalty. They are given in the modern game. It doesn't seem to matter if you win the ball now, if a ref sees contact inside a penalty box he will very often give a penalty. I'm glad we got it though. How the ref and linesman missed the elbow to Giroud leading to their equaliser,I'll never know. However, players at any level simply must play to the refs whistle.
