Knew he would get booed.

We are usually good with our former players, but Mount leaving in the manner that he did has done him no favours. Fans aren't in the best of moods either.

James gave him a quiet applause though

I can't hate Mount, worked his socks off for us when others seemed to give up.

He seemed set to go once it was clear he was never going to get close to his peers in salary as the club was adopting a new salary structure.

Of course he has to prove he is now faithful to United it is part of moving to a bigger club.

I just remember the young kid getting crucial goals for us when others were not at the races.

If the ownership didn't spend recklessly when they came in then I am pretty positive Mount would be in a Chelsea shirt right now.

Conor is very likely going to be next.

They literally offered him a 200kpw extension.

The twelve month extension with a release clause? Blatant attempt at a money grab from the private equity lads.

Even if he was offered a proper contract at 200k he had every right to reject it as 2xPOTS when James and Sterling very recently had signed on for far more. Try to extend Lampard back in 2008 for less than Ashley Cole and he'd reject too.

He was about to sign as The Athletic reported and then club withdrew the offer in a slimy way because they realized they spend too much money on new players so Mount had to be sold to rescue the economics. Pretty straight forward.

So two wrongs make a right then? Sterling got a ridiculous contract, let’s add Mount to it?
James is the best RB on the planet when fit so they clearly see the value in him. He’s had his surgery finally and given Kante’s injury free season after his surgery, it only gives optimism James will also see the same benefit.

The Athletic went into specific detail that Mount was offered a year extension, 200kpw, to create time to negotiate a longer deal. There was zero mention of a release clause. If you believe Mount was deserving a 250-300Kpw deal with hefty image rights despite being in poor form the past 18 months, that’s on you.

Hard to sign the agreed upon contract when said contract is withdrawn before they had the chance to sign the dotted line.

That sums the entire contract negotiations up. We acted in bad faith and the clubs at fault.
