Not sure. For me, the Cup was important and loved the Cup Winners Cup, which I don't know why they scraped it. Now a days the CL is the only European trophy of relevance, and therefore the local cups have been losing the relevance and being top 4 has become more important economically and to compete with the football elite. Back in the day, we would not even be discussing this, top 4 was not of merit and the Cup was. I don't see top 4 as any merit but an opportunity to compete in the only European trophy that has significance. The Cup is a nice cherry on the cake and a great trophy. What I would scrap is the League Cup, I don't see the point of it today.

When you compare club success over time, top 4 is not mentioned just the trophies and Liverpool and Utd are way ahead. Probably explains thier rivalry.

The clubs that win might change over time if the FFP is enforced.

I also liked the Cup Winners Cup rather than the Europa league as it was a competition of winners rather than 5th or 6th runners up in the league.

It was a glamour knockout competition.

Thats impossible to know, but we do know factually from several players is that it definitely helped them to win the premier league that season.

Top 4 never got them nowhere because they never spent money. Even RVP said they lacked ambition. Can you say the same about Chelsea?
