Went to see Greavsie and Chopper on their tour of the world and the latter had a lot of funny stories to tell.

That guy looks like a club bouncer but big up to a man with so many apps!! 139.gif

Did he reveal the real reason he was called Chopper ?

He did mention it yes! icon_wink.gif

...and he used a lot of swear words, in front of quite a few old ladies.

They mentioned Ron Harris on the radio the other day in a section about best players never to get an England cap.

gotta say that suprised me.

Ron Harris will always be remembered as a hard man, but he was also an excellent player. A born leader, he was exceptionally strong in the tackle, could read a game well, and had great distribution.

He represented England at Schoolboy, Youth, and Under-23 levels, but due to Alf Ramsey being a prat, Chopper never made it into the full England side.

I caught about 10 minutes of that and it was no surprise that I heard two scousers phoning up to say that it was a disgrace that Alan Hansen only got 20 off caps for Scotland. Disgrace nothing, the reason was simply that there were two better players ahead of him at the time.

McLeish and Miller is, for me, probably the best British centre half pairing of the last 20 years.

And Ossie only got four. Jack Charlton (who had no love for Ossie) reckoned Alf's two biggest mistakes at that '70 world cup were not playing Ossie against Germany and Brazil.

He wasn't the only one either. The likes of Alan Hudson, Charlie George, Stan Bowles and Rodney Marsh got about 15 caps between them, which is scandalous really.

Ramsey being such an almighty prat was also why Ossie only played four times for England and John Hollins only once.

Quite how Ramsey preferred the likes of Martin Chivers and Joe Royle to Ossie was always beyond me. He just didn't like flair players, and England suffered for it.

Add Tony Currie to that list, and also George Armstrong of Arsenal who never got capped at all.

The way John Hollins was overlooked was nothing less than scandalous. How the f*ck did the vastly overrated Martin Peters, and even worse, Alan Mullery get in ahead of him??? icon_eek.gif

And Bobby Tambling only got 3 caps! icon_twisted.gif

Got to agree with that, even if they did play for bleedin' Aberdeen icon_lol.gif

Not to mention Charlie Cooke who scandalously only got 16 caps for Scotland due partially to the fact he had a few too many bevvies one night!

Again I agree, but to be fair, Charlie was competing with a certain Jimmy Johnstone and Willie Henderson in his position icon_lol.gif

I think it was the whole package as well. Their lifestyles, the booze, the long hair, the cockiness etc. If Best had been English, he probably wouldn't have won many caps either.

Aye, in those days you would have thought that would have made him a first team regular

That's so true, later in his career he stood out as an almost cultured defender, reading the game like a Hansen or Moore, at times.
