Nothing confirmed yet but I wouldn't be surprised. After watching him in pre-season I'm not sure if this is good or bad news ;) Kidding of course. Looks like Sidwell might get an early chance to impress if this is true.

I heard that he's out for up to 6 weeks. It's going to be very interesting to see how our midfield will play without him. What if we're doing really well when Lamps get back. What will happen then? Lamps is one of the untouchable, right? But if Essien, Mikel and Sidwell(?) is great, can he really just come back and take a place?

Why did it take them so long to diagnose?

Lampard suffers injury blow

Lampard to miss start of season

By Lewis Rutledge Last updated: 02nd August 2007

Lampard: Broken toe

Sky Sports News understands Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has broken a toe on his left foot.

It is believed that Lampard picked up the problem during Chelsea's first training session in America three weeks ago.

The extent of the injury was not then revealed until he was sent for an x-ray on Thursday afternoon.

With a number of other Chelsea players also sidelined, news of Lampard's broken toe will come as an especially major blow to Jose Mourinho.

Although Chelsea have yet to confirm how long Lampard will be out for, he is set to miss the Community Shield against Manchester United on Sunday.

He is also expected to miss the start of Chelsea's Premier League campaign the following weekend.

Lampard has been a virtual ever-present in the Blues side in recent years and speculation of a move away from Stamford Bridge recently died down after he was offered a big pay rise.

It's sort of worrying that we are getting all these injuries, it's so important to hit the ground running - literally and Lampard sure as hell will not be doing that or Ballack or Bridge, Terry had his problem and there have been any number of players missing parts of the pre-season due to niggling injuries, very odd.

Just saw this on Sky Sports:

Chelsea have moved to dismiss speculation that Frank Lampard could miss the start of the season.

Reports had suggested Lampard may be ruled out of the early part of Chelsea's new campaign after breaking a bone in his toe.

However, the club has insisted the midfielder only has a minor injury and will be fit to play.

Lampard has featured in all Chelsea's pre-season matches and has not missed a single training session since suffering the injury three weeks ago.

He is set to play a major part in Sunday's Community Shield showdown with Manchester United.

A Chelsea statement read: "Contrary to speculation, Frank Lampard has only suffered a minor injury - sustained over three weeks ago whilst training in Los Angeles.

"The injury has not required any pain-killing injections nor affected Frank's ability to play or to take part in any one of Chelsea's training sessions."

Latest I heard, the club were denying that he'd broken anything and was expected to be fully fit for the start of the season.

I say we stop responding to the mdeia bollox. Medjia black out if you like. no players to give interviews, no questions answered.

Write what you want the club will answer no question and will do its talking on the pitch.

Thats the stance the club should be taking IMO becuase i can garantee the papers will do all they can to destablise us again this season

Chelsea tried that before. The media made sh*t up and Chelsea would not respond, this drove everyone mental as we only got one side of the story and it was always anti-Chelsea.

After much painstaking research, I've finally tracked down the witch doctor who's bl**dy well responsible for all our injuries!

Man Utd or Liverfool hired him to kybosh our players. Check out the red shirt!

We need to fight fire with fire, Roman! Can't you go buy a small African country or something? They'll have someone we can use to break the spell!

Or failing that, hire this guy:

I?m glad it isn?t serious, craaaaaaazy as it sounds, I am worried when our 20 plus a season midfield goal scorer and leading assist man is thought to be injured.

maybe you kneed to toe-k some medical marijuana.

I'd be more than happy to foot the bill.

might not be so bad if he has broken his toe- he needs a rest.

Community Shield match underlined that. Thing is, I know he has played a heck of a load of games over the past few seasons. BUT it is what top players are supposed to do. He has just had a holiday / summer break - no doubt the kind of break most of us in normal jobs can only dream about (certainly not a week in Hemsby!!!). So give him more of a break? How long? Then if he comes back and still plays sh**e then what? A further break?

I'm not so sure we haven't seen the best of Lamps. Yeah, I'm sure he'll still do the biz now and again and no doubt will pick up goals here and there, but lets face it, when was the last time he looked anywhere near good for a run of games. Yet other players continue to get dropped when they have 1 or 2 iffy games.

I would drop (not rest) him now.
