Rumours that Chelsea have earmarked him for next Summer may be wide of the mark.

The fact that we are having no success in this transfer market makes me no more confident of landing any top targets in the Summer. We'll stand by and watch Berbatov and Huntelaar go to the Mancs in the Summer and Benzema to Real Madrid or Arsenal, while we will be lumped with ageing mercenaries like Ronaldinho or some unheard of Russian player.

But someone out there must have always dreamed of playing for Avram Grant 300.gif

Don't worry BLUENUT. I have it on good authority from several poasters on this site (who happen to have inside information) that footballers only ever transfer for two reasons:

1. a pay rise

- OR -

2 To graft as hard possible for a club they've always loved but never been fortunate enough to play for and would be their honor to pull on that club's shirt each and every time they step out on the pitch regardless of whether said club has a total numpty in charge and their career could suffer accordingly.

Yup, those are the only two reasons fro transfers. Well, that is if you listen to the gospe as preached by some.

OK, so say several clubs are willing to pay you the exact same wages. Who do you sign for Arsen's Arsenal, Fergies Utd or Grants Chelsea?

I'm sure the manager has some sway in convincing new signings to play for them. The previous manager did anyway.

Drogba, Essien, A Cole are just a few who were sweet talked into coming here. Same way Arnesen does to bring in youngsters.

Drogba and Essien cost 50 million combined and get a fortune in wages. As far as Ashley is concerned Mourinho's interest in him cost the club a great deal of embarrassment if i remember correctly.

That is not to say Jose didn't have some sway in convincing them to come in. But i doubt it was more important than transfer fees offered to their respective clubs, wages offered to the players and the idea of playing in top competitions.

so if we are to believe all the rumours manure will next season have Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov, Huntelaar, Saha and that new Angolan striker.

I would love to know how they would keep that lot happy

Don't forget Benzema.

I think all Star said was that he was "earmarked" for a move in the summer. I think that the mancs have enough in their strikeforce to stay away from Huntelaar. I think we would be the more likely for him to join if Drogba were to leave, as Huntelaar is an athlete and likes to play the full 90, as well as score. That sounds like somewhat of a replacement for Drogba, and if it came to us and the mancs I think we would be able to offer him more playing time than the mancs would (unless the mancs get rid of some strikers in the summer, but then that opens up the question of who they would get rid of?)
