The Brit
Not surprised Ronaldo won the player of the year tonight and probably not surprised we don't feature in the team of the year either...but this team looks out of date considering what's happened to arsenal in the last few months. possible chelsea entries would be carvalho, Ballack and Joe cole if you ask me PFA teams of the year: Premier League: David James (Portsmouth), Bacary Sagna (Arsenal), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), Nemanja Vidic (Man Utd), Gael Clichy (Arsenal), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Emmanuel Adebayor (Arsenal), Fernando Torres (Liverpool). blueday3
i guess they give us no players on team of the year because we dont have 1 guy that scores all of our goals, but were in 2nd place there must be someone on our team that deserves the honor right? Luis Enrique
PFA voting takes place in January (why, I don't know), so it in no way captures success and play across the season. Fabregas won young player of the year award, but his play since coming back from injury (I think it happened in late November) hasn't been on the same level. The players must face a dilemna when nominating and voting.
evissy
It tells really how we didn't have one player for us to rely this season. Without Ronaldo ManU would be already 12 poinst behind us. If we lose Drogba or Lampard or even Terry we can still beat Manu, or Arsenal. I think the best award would be "team of the year award" (read:prem champs) . For example Arsenal got 4 players and what do they got to show for after the season? Nothing Nada ZIP!! (might still happen to us tho...).
coco
This was talked about during the game on sky saturday. It was thought the reason was that Chelsea have used their squad more extensivley over the season. Chelsea have only got 2 players (both the Coles) who have played more than 35 games so far this season, on the other hand Manure have got 8 players. Would explain our small injury list at present, considering its the end of the season.
dreadis
I couldn't care less about this list! If/when we win the league, ask Rio or Nemanja would they rather be on the EPL "champions" list or the "team of the year" list! Plus, it just points out that our achievement is based on a team effort, not depending on one Portu-geezer (thinking of CR, not JM)! :)
ethicalstrategy
I'm not sure I'd describe it as a snub. When they announced the voting of the Chelsea player of the year I was a bit stuck so I never really expected any of our players to be voted in by their fellow professionals. Particularly as the vote was in January. I suspect that one or two might get a shout now.
Backbiter
It was thought the reason was that Chelsea have used their squad more extensivley over the season. Chelsea have only got 2 players (both the Coles) who have played more than 35 games so far this season, on the other hand Manure have got 8 players. . The stat mentioned during the Sky commentary was that only 3 players have made over 20 starts in the League, which shows how disrupted our season has been by injury and, to a lesser extent by the ACN. It's not surprising that noone features in the PFA team, although the lack of players who have had a good season is a major factor, I'd say. Mind you, Gerrard would be in even if he received an Eduardo-style injury in preseason and never kicked a ball in the League.
blueday3
looking at the stats for goal scorers on the fox website its kind of sad because our leading scorer is anelka with 11 and i think he only has 1 goal with us and the rest were with bolton or wherever he was. mad_mac
Yes it was Bolton. How quickly we forget
Butch
Can you think of one Chelsea player that SHOULD be on that list? I'm struggling to. Maybe Joe Cole, but a bit of a stretch really. Ballack's been good since he's been back but hasn't played enough to be in contention (at the time the votes were cast). Cheers, Butch
