Milan Reject Chelsea Approach...

Rossoneri will not let coach depart for Stamford Bridge

Looks like things are starting to develop on the the search for the new boss, and not a bad choice IMO.

CHELSEA IN ANCELOTTI TALKS?

Chelsea are reportedly in talks with the representatives of Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Chelsea are homing in on their new manager after sacking Avram Grant less than two weeks ago after just eight months in charge.

The Premier League runners-up are understood to have narrowed down their short list for the job to two names.

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes, who is also interesting Manchester City, is one of the Blues' targets to replace Grant.

The other contender is an overseas coach and it seems they have made a renewed attempt to prise Ancelotti away from the San Siro.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani revealed at the weekend that the club had turned down Chelsea's request to hold talks with Ancelotti.

However, Sky Sports News understands that the Blues are meeting with Ancelotti's representatives to discuss the possibility ot taking charge at Stamford Bridge.

Sven Goran Eriksson, Frank Rijkaard, Guus Hiddink, Luiz Felipe Scolari and Roberto Mancini are among the names to have been linked with the Chelsea position, but it now seems to be a straight fight between Hughes and Ancelotti for the job.

they're going to fleece us again, aren't they?

would be a big shame not to get sparky for all concerned, but there are many worse choices than ancellotti. 317.gif

same could have been sid about keeping grant in charge

mmy yes, but I think it's fair to say ancellotti is better than grant and while grant showed savvy and intelligence to revert to a 433 and maximise our season, beyond that no-one knows what he would have done, or if he is capable of shaping a new side. I think ancellotti has shown that he is both able to build a team and be flexible to accommodate the owners ideas.

Do you really think he's the right guy for the job?

erm, my first two choices were lippi then hiddink - after they ruled themselves out, basically we were left with a host of very good managers from the rung just below (including ancellotti), sparky, an interesting and appealing choice for different reasons, and then a couple of underwhelming managers, such as mancini. that's how it breaks down for me.

it's important to recognise that sometimes the best manager isn't the best choice- ancelotti isn't lippi, but his characteristics suit us quite nicely if you think about it. really all I want is for the fans to be patient (i.e. no more jose chants every time we look like drawing), the board to be patient (doubtful though) and for the manager to not be scolari, rijkaard or especially mancini.

I posted this about him the other day:

he does actually have quite a bit going for him.

first of all, forget the "he's let milan grow old" stuff- it's a club where he coaches, and sometimes requests players, but the fact milan now can only really rely on players who, though are still quality, cannot play 50 game seasons effectively, has less to do with ancelotti than others at that club.

what does he have going for him?

-great football, not keegan style gung ho madness, but controlled and attractive. a real passing side, over here la liga is watched more but this recent milan side were just as good to watch (as barca) at their own peak.

-2 european cups as manager, which is something I think it's fair to say the owners want, the players now want more perhaps, and IMO the final and the win over liverpool has really whetted the fans appetite for it... the league is a priority once again, but... maybe the "respect" (bad word) for it has increased? we have some rapport with the competition now.

- I think his ace card (or usp if we want to use w**ky terms), is that he can work (successfully) with hands on owners and directors. he's accepted players he hasn't chosen, he's built a formation based on burlusconi wanting "3 forwards", and for milan to be an attacking side. he's very good at dealing with big, possibly difficult people, whether on the board or on the playing staff.

I think that last point is not to be underestimated. still want sparky, would be happy with ancelotti.

p.s. his nickname is carletto, which sounds like cornetto. this could swing things.

I think we'll be doing rather a lot of drawing, G4! 346.gif

I'm pig sick. I rushed home from work expecting to sit down to my tea and an announcement about Sparky - or...and I have to have it dragged out of me...Rijkaard at a pinch. I never expected this.

On the up side - does it mean Kaka' is on his way?

personally i would be very happy with this appointment

i defenalty would go between him and hughes

but am not sure how hughes would handle a big club becuase at blackburn he hasnt got much to loose

and carletto does well in europe.

Wow, Sky Sports seems to 'understand' every single thing about Chelsea!!

I'll be disappointed if Sparky is not our new man, but Ancelotti is not that bad a coach. However, I wont believe anything until there is an official statement and keep praying that Sparky should become the Blues boss.
