Question for people who do the weekly quizzes

I have been thinking about the scoring of the quizzes and think it may be better to do away with the bonus participation point and just order the standings on average score.

If you look at the table as it stands

You can see that it is practically impossible for someone joining now to get anywhere near the top of the table as an excessive amount of a person's overall score is the participation bonus rather than the average score for correct answers.

So what I was thinking was just dropping the participation bonus. Obviously this means if somebody just participated for one week and got 10 out of 10 they would jump straight to the top of the table however this would even itself out over time assuming they began to enter submissions on a regular basis.

I would do something along the lines of what I already doing and only put people in the table if they have submitted scores in the past 3 weeks meaning that if someone entered once, got 10 and then never entered again they would not sit at the top of the table indefinitely.

Anyone got any thoughts?

As a new comer, how about an extra 66 bonus points for participation for me?

But I do like that idea, sounds fair to me (Y)...probably won't sound fair to Geezer but no matter...

Should have posted this in the main post.

This is how the table would currently look if I went down the alternative scoring route

So it would put G4 at the top but I wouldn't worry about that, he is as reliable as the withdrawal technique.

Ruh Buh Juh - ignore the fact that your points appear to have changed in the 2nd table - that is because you sent in answers to quiz 10 already.

Also I would just remove the total points column.

Ahh I see. Treating the quizzes as a pub quiz. You've gotta get straight in there!

Whats the withdrawal technique ?

Don't ask me - I have two children meaning I never mastered it!

I like the new table. It takes me closer to the top. And I think we can do away with the 'total points' column, it serves no purpose and I've never understood how it's a total?!

Basing the tabloe on the average score is absolutely the way to go otherwise I'd get too dizzy being on top of the table every week just because I'm sad enough to participate every week.

Interesting point made by dkw. Maybe you should think of a way to highlight the quiz to everyone who visits this site because it's likely there will be others who are not aware of its existence.

Me neither! My first thought was , "If I can't be on top of Geezer, I don't want anyone else on top of him!" But then I saw it was G4, and it's so nice to see him back that I decided it was OK!
