  1. A bit weird to heap praise on a striker who's hardly scored recently, but Giroud is the perfect strike partner for guys like Griezmann and Hazard. His footballing ability, intelligence and general awareness are all highly underrated by a lot of people, who see him as little more than an exotic Peter Crouch, but he is an excellent footballer. Morata was seen as the 'ball playing' option, but I think Giroud has proved that wrong. However, I'm sure we'd all love it even more if he could chip in with a few goals soon! Hazard was on another level today, really great to see him playing how he has done this season. Unstoppable, and getting his second ever hat-trick was great. Also, the way he celebrated in front of their fans, tapping the badge, was hilarious As for everyone else, comfortable enough but a little too casual at times. If we could just play like we're 1-0 down from the start, we'd be OK! Very happy to be 5 for 5 with only 2 other teams, something not to be sniffed at with a new manager. Tougher tests to come, but I look forward to seeing how we progress!
  2. I saw about that on Twitter, but a lot of people were saying it's a non-story, as he was actually at a promotional event? He certainly posted on his Instagram that he was. Might be wishful thinking, but it all lines up.
  3. Both teams have been absolutely awful here. Defensive errors, misplaced passes, unable to control the midfield and constantly giving the ball away especially. Jorginho, Kante and Kovacic would have an absolute field day dominating this bunch!
  4. Oh he’s definitely next on the list! Instant hero status.
  5. Hi all, As a graphic designer, I get bored from time to time and decided to explore doing some Chelsea edits/wallpapers this season. I've quickly put together a Calum Hudson-Odoi one as an example, if people like them I'll carry it on! Feel free to move or whatever if this is in the wrong place.
  6. Indeed, please don't think of me as otherwise. I was referring to the level of Drogba, Lampard, Zola etc., a player associated primarily with Chelsea. My point was actually kind of similar to yours, as I also said you can't blame him should he take this opportunity and as Chelsea fans, we will of course be biased and dream of him retiring here, but knowing that would be fantasy more than something we could realistically expect.
  7. I had high hopes of him staying with us and going on to become a real club legend, as he didn't seem to have any real desire to go, and I wondered if the highly pressurised (and occasionally toxic) atmosphere at Real would suit his personality. Still, you can't blame him if he wants to go and test himself at that next level. It's easy for us to say 'he should say', but we're Chelsea fans! My biggest concern is not having anyone who could step into his role. I guess we can hope one of the youngsters can do it, but it's a huge blow to lose a player like him even just in terms of appearances and morale. We're trying to make some statements with our manager choice, getting Jorginho, all the other rumours, but not having a 'star' player like Eden wouldn't be a good look for a club trying to claw their way back to the top. ideally I'd like a swap deal with either Asensio or Isco, but I seriously doubt that would happen!
  8. Any day you win a trophy is a good day, and after the season we’ve had today was extra sweet! No matter what’s happened, or will happen, it was nice to see our boys lift a trophy, the last one of the season no less. Hopefully onwards and upwards for here, but either way, let’s enjoy it! Enjoy the rest of your weekend all
  9. I can’t believe the stick the BT commentators gave Hazard for going down, then Young actually dives and they’re all making excuses for it...not that we should really be surprised but still!
  10. Just noticed that City’s official twitter account share transfer rumours from the media...why would you do that?
  11. Not one to moan but I’m fed up of this happening constantly. Get in the bin.
  12. Lille actually have some very talented young players, the trouble is there aren't really any experienced players or leaders there to balance out the naïvety of youth. At Monaco they had the likes of Falcao, Moutinho, Glik, Raggi etc. to provide that. Personally I feel like we're a bit short in the leadership department (despite having a fair amount of experience), so that'd certainly be something to watch out for if we went down that route.
  13. I think it’s because a certain group of managers have got themselves this reputation as managers who can save a club and ‘get the job done’, when in reality it’s mostly the new manager effect ‘bounce’. You could appoint the mascot and get a similar effect. They’re not good enough for mid table and above teams, so they’re stuck in the perpetual relegation cycle.
  14. Yet another game of celebrating going ahead, being on top and looking decent, and then completely throwing it away. It's infuriating and utterly embarrassing seeing us go from Champions to chumps in the blink of an eye again.
  15. He was at Chelsea 2001/2002, I remember he was pretty awful and a lot fans didn't take to him...when he left he admitted he hadn't done very well for us. At the time he was regarded by many as one of our worst ever signings. However, there's no denying that as a manager he's done pretty well with Fulham, and plays attacking football too, which would be a nice change. Personally I find it difficult to get excited about the prospect, it's certainly a gamble given he has no experience at the level Chelsea are at, and no experience with the situations he'll find himself in with us.
  16. It's funny that a lot of people are saying how Busquets absolutely bossed midfield last night, dominated Kanté etc., based purely on passing stats, ignoring that DM is a position that very often can't be defined by stats alone (and ignoring our game plan). Still, I guess fans will always praise their own player, we know who the real midfield boss was. I thought he did brilliantly, he was a constant shadow to Messi and yet still managed to be everywhere else, and even helped out offensively, carrying the ball forward and getting in the box.
  17. Yeah, bit weak wasn't it The thing with the iPad dragged on, not that anyone could see what was on it. I quite liked the way he was told to just sit down because they had a press conference to get on with.
  18. I'm hopeful the players can step-up and at least put in a strong performance against them. Historically it's always been a good tie, and we've given as good we've got, I just hope that can continue! If we go out then I hope we can do so with our heads held high. Maybe the poor form we're in will actually help to inspire us? Wishful thinking perhaps, but the underdog mentality has served us well before. I know we're out of form, but these are the games where, with the right players, form can become irrelevant. Hazard, Kanté, Azpi, Christensen, Courtois and either Morata or Giroud are all players capable of performing at this level. It may not the squad from 'The Glory Days', but it's not half-bad either! Add in the likes of Fabregas, Pedro, Willian and the possibility of Alonso popping up with some magic, it's not all bad. It will require a huge effort from every single player, but there isn't much greater motivation than us against Barcelona in the CL!
  19. Isco is a joy to watch. Such great close control and technique, usually finds a teammate as well.
  20. Can’t wait to replace my ‘2017 Champions of England’ pint glass with the soon-to-be-released ‘2018 Chumpions of England’ edition. Top stuff.
  21. I'm hoping this and the Andy Carroll rumours were put out by Chelsea PR as a decoy, so when we eventually sign Dzeko we all go 'well, could've been worse!'.
  22. Morata and Pedro both out is almost unbelievably bad, but at least if Bats plays we might actually stand a chance of converting some of the chances we're creating. If there's one thing he's good at, it's instinctive finishing around the 6 yard box. If it pans out as an attack v defence game again, then we just need to keep sticking plenty of balls into the area and have him hang around in front of goal.
  23. I think what truly makes that goal is the fact that the keeper injured himself and had to go off afterwards!
  24. Interesting point, and it makes more sense when you think that often it’s Cahill covering for Alonso, and as he struggles in a similar way with pacey players etc. then you can see why. Also, Moses at least has the pace to stick close enough to the opponent to make it more difficult for them. Having said that, I’m a fan of the guy. Works hard despite his flaws, and has popped up with some great goals for us. He’s definitely surpassed pretty much all of our expectations, and when he’s not been in the team no one else has managed to cover well enough for him.
  25. When I went to the Cheltenham v West Ham game for the Carabao Cup, the Hammers fans were poor. Fair play a fair few turned up considering, but aside from a couple of back and forth chants they didn’t get involved much. Also they were giving Cheltenham fans a load of abuse outside the ground, for no obvious reason.
