  1. To be fair, regarding that Players Tribune piece, I read it as more of a personal thing, revealing his childhood, growing up, his family and his wider life. He talks a lot about the World Cup with the England U17's, but that's understandable, it's the biggest achievement of his career so far. Even then, he talks about being scared of a peacock almost as much as that! I'm not saying I don't get a slight vibe that maybe his heart isn't with Chelsea as much as we'd want it to be, but maybe the damage had already been done, or maybe that's just who he is. Personally, I still have a lot of hope that should he recover fully from his injury, he can go on to become a big player for us. Maybe with some time to reflect on what's been quite a big season in his senior career he'll see the amount of support he has here, and that the potential is there to make his mark as a club legend. As it stands, one thing at a time; he's going to be out for a while, so firstly let's just hope that he can sign an extension in the meantime and focus on getting back to where he's at now, as he had built up some good momentum.
  2. Fair enough. Serves me right for listening to the commentary. I think their point was about not really trusting the 'backup' players, but I guess the same could easily be argued about us. Kudos to our medical staff and fitness coaches I suppose!
  3. I think it was mentioned during the commentary that they've had a tough season and very little squad depth, so by this stage of the season they're knackered. I thought we put in a good away performance too, it's a shame that we couldn't quite make our second half pressure count and grab another goal, whilst they managed to score with far fewer shots. Story of our season to a degree! Still, an away goal and a draw isn't the worst result away from home in Europe. Thought RLC and Jorginho stood out, Pedro did well for the goal too. Christensen had a good second half after looking a bit shaky at times in the first and picking up a silly yellow.
  4. Plenty of talk of ‘another famous night of Anfield magic under the lights incoming’. It’s a myth tbh, I remember earlier this season when PSG fans outsung them there, even though they were losing and massively outnumbered.
  5. Wouldn't be surprised if they just say 'screw it, nobody gets 4th' and it jumps from 3rd to 5th.
  6. The one thing I noticed was when we kicked off after 2:2, there was none of the fight and urgency we showed to get it to 2:1. It seemed like they thought that fighting back once should've been enough and when it wasn't, just had a bit of a sulk. I don't know if that's a fair assessment but that's how it seemed at the time watching it. Either way, it's poor to not get a result. Sure, Burnley played every (dirty) trick in the book, but when you're a team fighting for top 4, you have to find a way. I'm not about to get involved in working out whether that's on the players or the manager or both, but I think we can say that as a team we bottled it.
  7. Getting in early with a question about where people are getting their streams from these days, what with the downfall of the various Reddit pages!
  8. The Wayne Hennessey thing is a massive joke. Going on about he doesn't know anything about Hitler, or the Nazis, 'his generation not knowing' blah blah. The guy is 3 years older than me and we definitely learnt all about it at secondary school. He's just followed the Donald Trump method of deny everything and plead ignorance and they bought it. As for United, 'Ole's at the wheel' appears to be driving them off a cliff! Excellent stuff 😂
  9. Looks like our brief spell is over. We needed to capitalise and get a goal but we fluffed 3 chances.
  10. Heard it mentioned on the radio on the way home, but after they'd spent all morning only mentioning the Chelsea thing, and talking about that more than the actual game.
  11. I'm hoping this is one of those situations where a team appoint an unexpectedly successful interim manager full time, then absolutely tank after the honeymoon. Fair play to Wolves though, this was no fluke and they've done exceptionally well against the 'Top 6'. They're a well managed team full of good players who fit what the manager wants perfectly. Hopefully we can FINALLY take advantage of an opportunity to move up a little closer to the top 4 after failing to do so the last few times...
  12. If Hazard goes and the transfer ban is upheld, then the club need to be doing everything to make sure CHO feels like he's a big part of our future. Even if it wasn't the case with Hazard, we still need to be holding onto him and prioritising him over the likes of Willian. That's nothing against Willian, I rate him higher than most here I feel, but CHO is clearly a special talent, and it would certainly mean a lot to us fans to have a young English talent come through the Academy ranks and stake a claim to being a future club legend. Especially with the grim prospect of missing out on the CL and a transfer ban looming...
  13. I'm struggling to be too fussed either way about it. It's definitely pretty impressive, but it's far too much like a generic Pro Evo stadium for me to be getting too jealous. Plus it's taken so long it became a bit of a joke. I'd love for us to be building our new stadium next, but it's slipped way down the list of things to worry about for me! I do wonder if they bothered fitting a trophy cabinet...?
  14. Suddenly I'm not so disappointed with a draw against Wolves ?
  15. Watching MOTD 2 last night and the Liverpool interviews, with Klopp and I think it was Robertson, came across very defensive and like they had a serious chip on their shoulder. I feel like the pressure is definitely starting to show! Let the slip'n'slide begin...
  16. After the absolutely huge effort over the past week in both the cup final and the Spurs game, I think it was always going to be the case that we started to look tired at some point. We should've been out of sight and able to coast the rest of the game in fairness, but it was never going to be easy, given it is a derby and they were trying to ride the wave that teams often get after a manager gets sacked. Tiredness or not though, it's clear there are still some issues, but for now the 3 points is very welcome. Onwards and upwards, we're halfway to being back in the top 4!
  17. Some pretty shambolic football from both sides, but Spurs continue to be Spurs! On that note, there's a Spurs fan at work and he was showing some of us one of the Spurs forums, and my word, we think the meltdowns on here are bad! Every other word is "c**t" this and "c**t" that, they also have a weird obsession with how much they hate Azpi and they seem more interested in their players snapping someone in half than actually scoring a goal. I know forums tend to attract a lot of anger but this was fairly worrying!
  18. I'm still stunned that this comedy sideshow unfolded at a critical moment in a cup final, potentially throwing any tactical masterplan Sarri may have had with the goalkeeper swap, unnerving the others before their spot kicks, and at the very least making us a laughing stock (again). Personally, I'm keen to draw a line under it and move on. The club have fined him, and Sarri will deal with him how he sees fit; if he drops him, fine. If he doesn't, that's fine too, he's the boss. Whatever decision gets made, I trust it'll be the one that most benefits the team. We need to minimise the negativity right now, and I just hope that everything has been straightened out behind the scenes and all is well in the camp. We all know the media are waiting to reignite this story when the team sheet is released for Spurs either way, so there's no winning with them.
  19. The touch before putting Hazard through was incredible, and I thought he showed a few other nice touches too. I'm a big fan of the way he always looks to be direct and carry the ball forward, we really miss that in our midfield. Kovacic is tidy enough but has no real attacking instinct, which when you're playing alongside Jorginho and Kante is no help at all. Barkley is decent and has some impressive moments, but he has a tendency to get himself into trouble by wanting too long on the ball and a lack of awareness, but when operating purely on instinct he's great. Either way, RLC and Barkley have to be ahead of Kovacic in the pecking order, and as a few others have said, staying fit really is the key for him now, as he's looking impressive each time he plays at the moment.
  20. As pessimistic as we’re all feeling right now, a cup final is still a cup final, both an achievement and an opportunity to grab a slice of glory and one of the 4 pieces of silverware up for grabs in a season. Finals often exist in their own bubble, separate from form, past results and all that noise, so we could do with some of our traditional cup final magic tomorrow! We may moan about some members of the squad, the manager and all that, but we’ve still got plenty of winners who I’m sure still have at least another 90 minutes of glory in them! Obviously you have to be realistic and acknowledge the very realistic possibility of another pasting, but why be a fan if you can’t find a little enjoyment from being in a final, at least before the game anyway...
  21. I’m not sure I can take another 3 minute long passage of play where we pass it from side to side along the back 4, before eventually passing it to Kepa and having a tough time playing out of a press before eventually giving it away.
  22. Are we the only top 6 side not to have done a cringey handshake celebration...?
  23. Glad some of the shine was taken off the OGS love-in last night. Given PSG have flattered to deceive on the big stage for the most part, I wasn't sure how they'd cope without Neymar and Cavani. They looked a bit shaky in the first half but came out all guns blazing in the second and fair play to them, really showed up United weaknesses, which were emphasised when they lost all their pace in attack. Also, why such hatred for Di Maria? Just because he played for them once and wasn't very good? Fair play for pretending to drink out of that bottle chucked at him and telling them to f*** off after assisting both goals
  24. Yep, sadly I agree. With a transition things may get bad at times and there will always be 'growing pains', but there will also always be signs of improvement as the transition progresses. You'll lose, but also be hopeful. This just feels like a sinking ship, things are getting worse if anything. I've no idea what the answer is, but it doesn't seem like whatever we're doing at the moment is it!
  25. Anyone know any good streaming websites? I know this gets asked every match thread, but normally I just go to Reddit Soccer Streams! As it's now been shut down I'm at a loss.. In terms of the actual game, given our recent form, God only knows what could happen! I'm hoping we get 'big game Chelsea' and everyone is bang up for it, but City have a sniff of the title again now. I hope that at least we give it a proper go and don't roll over.
