  1. Great players don’t necessarily make great managers, however give the geezer a bit of rope. Don’t pretend to know the inns and outs of FL and JT’s respective intelligence, JT’s never struck me as a front runner in the IQ stakes. Ps Who ever said Frank was the Messiah?

  3. I’m inclined to agree. He reminds me a bit of a colt that’s outgrown its strength
  4. Day to day running of the club, such as making sure there’s enough milk in the fridge for tea, then I’d agree that she’s in charge. Its difficult to gauge how much freedom she has, and I certainly wouldn’t attach much creedance to her job description as defined in a newspaper article. The truth might be that she’s just some glorified Russian Santa’s helper who jumps when RA says jump, but that wouldn’t make good PR. Who knows....
  5. Is she bollox. RA “ Why did you not consult me before buying Kepa. I only found out about it in the Sun” MG “ Because if got f**k all to do with you. Piss off back to your yacht you rich turd”
  6. Roman is in charge. Yes he’s really incompetent and wasteful. Couldn’t run a welk stall.
  7. Bout 50,000 out of a 68,000 crowd. Then again, it was on a Sunday and I’m sure a good few other London fans went over with their Chelsea mates for the day out- There was a bit of a loon West Ham pal in our group who started singing Hammers songs on his own on the tube until he got a pull. A lot of “ sleeper” CFC fans came out the woodwork as well- pay at the gate Wembley final- I’m not particularly into hoolie books but Micky Francis mentions in one of the few ones worth reading,- Governers that they were fighting for their lives against half of London in the Coach Park after. Cant remember much about the game itself. Bit of a tin pot final which no one was particularly fussed whether we won or not.
  8. Great training top. He would have left the club before Umbro came onboard, or did the diamond appear on tracksuits before kits? When I was a wee lad and he’d moved on to QPR, I got a Dave Sexton coaching book one Xmas. Remember him saying that footballers had strong legs because of the running they did but neglected their upper bodies- he was an advocate of weight training and probably ahead of the game there. I think he was a bit of an amateur boxer- remember reading he offered out Ossie one time.
  9. One of my favourite ever home games. He was a chippy bastard McDermott. Can’t remember who he had a spat with when he was Keegans assstant at Newcastle- might have been Alan Hudson for some strange reason? Anyway, he said to him “ put your medals on the table”. Only a twat of a man would come out with a line like that Edit: Just checked online it was Hudson. Bit off topic but according to Kerry Dixon, in 83/84, when him and Micky Droy weren’t picked, which was pretty much all the time, they used to hit the bar in the second half.
  10. Valid points and apologies to Gol15 for the talking rubbish tag. The Premiership has been duopoly's of sorts for most of the last 25 years. Arsenal and Man U was getting a bit Celtic or Rangers until we upset the applecart, then it was either us or Man U for a period, followed by City or Man U again. A couple of curveballs thrown in with Leicester and us under Conte, then back to another period of dominance split between City and Liverpool. I think the smaller clubs have generally improved, which is why traditionally big clubs ( other than the current runaway two), seem to come unstuck more frequently than previous seasons. Saying that, I concede that there seems to be some elementary defending mistakes across the board this term.
  11. I can’t agree with that. The Premiership has a higher quotient of the worlds best players compared with 10 years ago, and elite coaches/ managers. Liverpool are dominating on a par with the best club sides ever over the past year or so, Man City did similar without copping a Euro trophy recently. We are not as good man for man as a decade gone by agreed, but unless you think that the standard worldwide has dropped I think your talking rubbish
  12. According to a mate it is me in previous pic. This is the back of his head circled in 82 at St James’s Park where it was going off big time.
  13. I’m looking at this on an iPhone- the top picture- Im not 100% sure but it looks like me at the front with a wedge haircut and dark v neck jumper. ( off work today will have better idea when see on desktop)
  14. Plough Lane?
  15. Funny I don’t remember it raining that day. I do recall Scorpion Dry Cider being heavily advertised on hoardings, because one of our lot who spewed up on cider the night before kept getting flashbacks
  16. Shed rebuild is the obvious one, cantilevered to incorporate another tier- can’t really construct a big flat bank of an end like the Holt because of space restrictions. If that did happen, a good chunk of the new space would be devoted to corporate facilities because that’s where the dough is. Who knows...
  17. Read some bonkers article about him- he and Joey Jones used to drive down from Wrexham every day for training ( 4 hours each way) and kip on fans sofas or along those lines.
  18. Joe Corrigan was the only old first division player taller than man mountain Micky Droy according to me brothers Panini socket album in 78. Half an inch higher at 6’ 4” and a half. ( They used to have statistics- age, height, weight, birthplace, favourite fish etc) Wee Ian Britton one of the smallest. Little Britton
  19. Not a bad Osgood volley with his weaker foot. Couldn’t see an Arsenal contingent in the Shed during the crowd shot. We’re they around that year?
  20. The players running out?
  21. When the “ new” East Stand was built some wag wrote to the club along the lines of “ Love the stand. There is however a major design flaw. It’s facing the pitch”
  22. Am I right in thinking that the old East Stand, and the Johnny Haynes Stand at Fulham were identical?
  23. Don’t know mate. I’ve had some good nights up there in the past but it’s not cheap.
  24. Sorry to hear about the cancellation. Yup, they won’t be around forever. Caught Roy Ayers ( Pubic Ayers brother) at the Forum about 18 months ago and the consensus was he’s too old, despite the rumour he’s taking cod liver oil capsules as suppository’s - loosens up the elbows and wrists... Talking of old codgers we saw Marlena Shaw at Ronnie’s a while back. I was pretty inebriated - thought I was entering the karzi but ended up backstage- clocked her without her wig on- she chased me out with a broom...
  25. Superb selection. I saw Mario Biondi at Clapham Grand a couple of years back. We were in the pub over the road debating whether to watch the support act; no one knew when MB would be onstage- we then spotted him playing the fruit machine and knocking back pints ( he was there a good half hour and was knocking em back) A mate said “ he’s not taking us South Londoners too serious, had he been at Ronnie Scott’s he’d be backstage working on his scales” Cut a long story he wobbled across the road- we followed- five minutes later he’s out there- gotta say he tore the place up for khazi paper- fantastic gig. He was on top form at Ronnie’s a bit later also. Next time was at our own Under the Bridge which is a fantastic venue ( I’d say the same if it was situated under say one of Loftus Roads rabbit hutch stands so I’m not being partisan); bit of a let down- too poppy promoting his new album. Swinging from branch to branch, caught the Blackbyrds at the Jazz Cafe just before Yuletide and they stormed it. BTW Yorkey or anyone else, last Saturday of the month, it’s Saturday Soul Affair @ The Burlington Arms Mayfair. Soul and Funk downstairs, dance jazz upstairs. Proper old crowd. £ 5 to get in 3PM to 11PM. It’s Groovy man!
