As far as I am concerned, Enzo has now moved on and is no longer our issue. Ultimately I think we got a good price for him. It will be interesting to see how his City career goes. He is surrounded by good players there but they have to deal with the post-Pep era and I think that may prove to be challenging. I reckon ultimately he still wants to move to La Liga.

I'm totally indifferent about his departure.
There would have been a time when losing a star player hurt, but here I think it's for the best for all parties.

Losing a world class player like this is fine only because Man City is not the same Man City anymore and more importantly, Xabi Alonso can make a better team without Enzo anyway.

    Very happy with this.
I actually dont think there is a massive difference between Sanchez and Martinez, both have a howler in them, however what this does is take all the narrative away from the goalkeeper situation, at 33 he adds leadership, and a calmess to the defence, and also winning mentality, he will be ideal short term so we can see if Penders is the one.
Very promising signs fron the board this summer.
Xabi Alonso and Dave Fallows seem to be in control more and we are seeing actual football decisions, and no one will complain about the £40m Atalanta defender, as long as we are also focusing on the here and now.

I think we need to get used to the idea of many players staying.
Seems to me that these ridiculous price tags they're putting on players are similar to how much they think they should get for a FOS. No one will pay these prices.

I don’t care about selling to a rival unless it’s a player who I want to keep.
In today’s market with the prem being strong business with each other is more and more inevitable.
Madueke to Arsenal, Garnacho to Villa. If you think they strengthen you then you’re pretty sh*t. I feel the same with Enzo tbh because I just don’t know where he plays for us and would rather have £120m to make us better. If he does well at city so be it it’s good business for us here and now.

Looks like he is off. City selling Reijnders and Rodri to fund it.
Ill be sorry to see him go, been a good player in a real tough period for us, under some of the worse leadership in years at every level, and a club that has had no direction to even develop the plethora of youngsters we have invested in.
Looking at the midfield now, I can only go off what Alonso did at Leverkusen. So for me it would be Wharton and Barco in that Xhaka role, Caicedo and then for me it would be Chema in that Palacios role although no real links to him, but Alonso knows him from Real Madrid Castilla, and I think he adds a different profile and a real aeriel threat too, can imagine him being useful to see games out like Mikel did. Henderson would the 5th option filling out the squad.
Essugo I would sell, decemt player but on the ball i dont think he will ever be at the right level for us. Lavia I would loan in the hope he gets over his injuries and can come back in 12 months when we hopefully have champions league minutes.

    Wharton/Barco Caicedo/Chema Henderson

Quite funny reading through these posts.
Some of Enzo's biggest critics also disdnt rate Maresca, but considering we had the biggest liability in the team, a player who cant run, cant pass, cant tackle, cant shoot, cant lead, cant control, poor touch, Maresca is starting to sound like an absolute miracle worker for that 1st season.
I think it boils down to Enzo not being a very likable character, and he costs a boat load of money. So every negative in his game gets amplified by thouse who do not like him, of which there are now many.
Probably best that he moves on if this is what he going to face this season, although i wouldnt be doing any business with City after what has gone on.
Personnaly think it will be a downgrade though, even with Wharton who i rate highly.

Argentinian fans have a dust up every week with each other and the police.
Game days today in Buenos Aires are similar to English games in the 80’s and 90’s. What happened after they lost the other night happens most weeks. I know away fans are banned from high risk games due to the trouble.
Hooligan ringleaders there are often connected to the clubs and/or to authority which makes it more difficult to stop. There is very little political will to take these people on.
Culturally the English hooligans of 40 years ago and today’s Argentinian hooligans are quite similar and similar comparisons can be made of the Balkan hooligans of the 2000’s for instance
There is an excellent book on the subject. The name eludes me at the moment. I’ll look it out later and post the author and title for anyone interested.
But Argentina is a great place with good people in general just as England was in the 90’s. What happened during and after the final isn’t a reflection of their general society.

Coming from someone who is actually married to an Argentine, they are very fond of Europeans. It's Chileans and Mexicans they don't like, which is a prolonged cultural thing. They do tend to see themselves above a lot of South American countries simply because they believe their way of life is better, IE more European.
They're notoriously passionate about football. More than any other country. For that reason, they've developed a crazy superiority complex as a fanbase. Which only further rubs other South American countries the wrong way.
They'll tear your heart out, or you'll marry them.
    No in between.

I spent 4 months in South America and from my experience the Argies have nothing against English people whatsoever.
I played football with them twice a week too. The funny, placid Argentinians turned into animals as soon as the games kicked off.
It’s how they play. Anything to get under the skin of opponents.
I’m glad their brand of football didn’t end up winning the WC but it is effective. They need a cause to rally behind and it was always going to be the Falklands they used against England.
I couldn’t give a sh*t regarding politics in football but the reaction in England just reeks of sour grapes tbh. Argentina fully deserved to beat England just as they fully deserved to lose the final.

They were already ruined since the start of the 2nd half, Spain could and should have scored much sooner.

A world class player scores a world class goal - not much of a surprise to me anyways. I get y'all hate him. But he is a very decent football player.

Always rated him, always will. Top player, probabaly our best in last 18 months. Doesnt get anywhere near the credit he deserve because he isnt an athelete, but absolutely dominated £300m+ worth of England midfield today in Bellingham, Anderson, and Rice.
Hope he gets a new contract and we keep him tbh, its the same as Cucurella, anything we bring in to replace him is a big downgrade.
Horrible team Argentina though, but kinda respect it, that used to be us.

I'm getting bored of all of this "rigged" sh*t I see online every time Argentina get any decision their way. The penalty Messi missed was a penalty, the goal Egypt scored did come from a foul in the build up. I would much rather Egypt won, but Argentina aren't winning from cheating. This generation of Argentina players just have the same thing Real Madrid had a few years back, coming up with big moments when they look like they are down and out.
