FargoFargo reacted to PloKoon13 in BlueCo buy Chelsea FCI think it might be healthy for us to step back for a moment and view Roman outside the lens of 'beloved club owner'. I also don't necessarily think that being a generous owner who has bankrolled the unthinkable success we've had over the past 20 years, who loves the club and who is polite to fans in person is necessarily mutally contradictory with being a brutal oligarch: it is possible to be both of those things at the same time. Similarly, you can think well of him for pumping his own money into the infrastructure of one of the poorest oblasts of Russia, and still think ill of him when you consider where the money likely came from.
I don't think the simplification of 'good guy' and 'bad guy' are helpful here. I don't think it is particularly useful to our understanding to contort ourselves trying to defend the [alleged] indefensible activities of a man whom we are incredibly grateful to and fond of for obvious reasons. Considering the political environment in which he rose to prominence, and the 'convenient' deaths which surrounded his rise to power, and also the fact that it is basically impossible to accumulate that much wealth without some [euphemistically] unethical activity.
Consider also that this isn't just about a distant conflict in a foreign country. Putin has made direct attacks on our own democracy, our own state, and is directly responsible for some of the appalling political activity we have been forced to endure recently (Brexit, the criminals currently in charge, the shameless lying with impunity with comes with Trump/Johnson-style rhetoric). If it does turn out that Roman was complicit or a participant in any of this, then as much as I love him for what he's done and continues to do for our club, frankly I want him held accountable too.

FargoFargo got a reaction from RomansRoubles in Official Thomas Tuchel *Now Sacked*It's true though. You just can't get back to normal after such a break. It's a fight and one of the biggest tasks for a manager to keep a title winning team winning. It's almost impossible with a young squad, that's why you don't see many of them at the very top season after season. Have you ever wondered why the UCL wasn't repeated for ages or why so many World Cup winning teams don't qualify for the next tourney or go out in group stages? It's the flip side of the coin.
Tuchel does a good job, they will only be stronger next season.

FargoFargo reacted to weetee in Official Thomas Tuchel *Now Sacked*I don't really get the rather negative outlook of some. We clearly IMO played the long game, gave our incredible important but overplayed players (eg Mount + Jorgi) as much rest as possible while giving all sqad members ample time to play competetively while bringing in results - albeit not as dominant or just partly convincing. Both aspects should in theory (because who knows) help us quite a bit in the long run this season.

FargoFargo reacted to timetowaste in Timo WernerI’m just glad that our stadium/away ends are full of people that back Timo every step of the way instead of slagging him off like people are in here.
I’m going to competently disagree with most of what’s been said. Shocking footballer? No chance. Like it or not Werner is one of our most important players, I know if I have a choice of playing Timo/Mount/Kai with Lukaku I’m choosing Timo nearly every time.
I’m not gonna disagree that he needs to start scoring goals but to say that he ‘only works hard’ is massively harsh on him, he’s an intelligent player that combines it with hard work, it’s not as if he’s just running around like a headless chicken

FargoFargo reacted to franklintorch in Timo WernerI know we bought Werner for his goals and to play Center Forward... but you can clearly see he is much more suited to play wide and off the striker. I think we'll definitely see him start to contribute more from those areas of the pitch. If you look at his stats from last season, he fetched in very similar to what Willian would contribute on a regular basis and we all loved him. Maybe a slightly unpopular opinion but I always thought he could be very wasteful...

FargoFargo reacted to Gol15 in Official Thomas Tuchel *Now Sacked*That's also due to the fact that he gets played in different positions a lot too. At Leverkusen he was mainly the AM at the middle of the pitch and his manager gave him the freedom to do what he does best and that's why we went to sign him.
OGS kept his job for this long because he bought Fernandes and simply put him in the middle of the pitch, it didn't matter what other stars he had in the team at all. And that player single-handedly prolonged that position that OGS has. Özil and Muller kept playing in the middle of the pitch, Kai gets shifted from right to left and our back 3 formation simply doesn't fit for our attackers that much.
1 shot on target against Brentfort, by the full-back and that won us the game. You can tell me whatever you want but that isn't sustainable, it's not going to work in every game. Also you say that he is too inconsistent but so is every other attacker at this point, so is Lukaku, so is Mount, so is Werner.

FargoFargo reacted to LongtimerLurker in Timo WernerI agree with all of this except for the first part of the last paragraph. 30 combined goal contributions in 60 games is actually bonkers considering he's not really hit the level of consistency or accuracy he's shown in the past.
I don't understand why people seem to think 25 is the finished article when for a striker its either the start of the peak or a few years out.
He can very much reach world class status at Chelsea nevertheless its up to him to put belief in his own ability and for the team and coach to get the very best out of him when he does play.
Aside from the UCL final in which he truly did put my faith in him to the test, he alongside Mason make this attack tick you could also throw an in form Pulisic into that mix as the most crucial forwards in this team.
Romelu is another one although, after a bright start he has faded a bit and we need at least a season under his belt before assessing him.
Yet I suspect he'll eventually form a devastating attack combination with pretty much all of our attackers and may in fact bring out the best in some of them (Timo, Christian & Callum) especially since they have quite compatible styles to Rom's I'd throw in Hakim as well.
Mason and Kai also looked decent with Rom but, arguably not as effective in bigger games as with Timo last season.
My point is if he has 30 goal contributions in 60 games (goals and assists mean the same thing for me) added to his already impressive skill set he's already close to being if not already there at the level just below world class, so why dismiss him from ever reaching the peak of football?
Because he misses chances? Sure but, so do some of the very best in the game that's not to say he can't become more clinical which for some is probably all he is missing to be classed as as world class.
My point as I'm sure you've guessed is he could become one of the world's best if he believes in himself more, trusts his natural instincts and thinks less. Then he can be one of the World's best, after KDB and Salah last thing we want is him reaching that level somewhere else. 25 is still young, Ronaldo (I know he's not Cr7) scored more goals after 30 than before just as an example.
Again I'll leave anyone that's forgotten what he was like at RB with this and it doesn't even include what I feel is his now best attribute his creativity. It does however highlight his pace, finishing and what he's like when he's confident.
@ForeverCarefree just so you know its not that I think you're wrong and this isn't aimed at you specifically I just think some are underestimating not only this man but, the club's vision when they brought him in. This one is for the long term just like the others around him who are only a couple/few years younger.
95 goals from 2016-2020 is pretty close to world's best if you ask me.

FargoFargo got a reaction from ashwin in Kai HavertzImo it's a win of a CL with a decisive goal. That really is not easy to work out mentally for a young guy like Kai. The signing of Lukaku also thretens Kai most of all attacking players in the squad. Add a poor runf of form to the mix and you have the current Kai situation. But it has in my eyes nothing to do with developement or for godsake talent. He's one of the finest talents out there.

FargoFargo reacted to mwblue10 in Timo WernerI think, generally, I’d still prefer Werner being aggressive and going for the header every time in that situation, shout or not. Slump aside, you want a forward attacking a ball inside the 6 yard box (he should have powered it home) rather than your defensive-minded wing back calling him off.
